Senior Manager: Mining Taxation

Purpose of this Position:

• Provide advice and assistance to clients on corporate tax matters relating to the mining industry, including but not limited to planning and structuring of their business to achieve tax efficiency.
• Advise clients on industry specific (mining) tax matters providing amongst others;
• Devise tax effective structures that are appropriate to clients business model;
• Review and or audit of tax calculations, including pre-issuance reviews;
• Assistance with mineral and petroleum resources royalty implementation, business process analysis, compliance and calculations;
• Monitor developments and advise clients in the event of changes that affect their business.
• Assist clients by identifying issues they may not recognise and recommend solutions tailored to their strategic and commercial objectives whilst considering the regulatory environment;
• Manage existing client portfolios and maintain sound client relationships;
• Identify new opportunities within existing clients;
• Generate new business and identify opportunities for other tax departments and or service lines;
• Leverage's on internal and external networks to enhance firm’s connectivity, performance and profitability opportunities;
• Interaction with regulatory bodies such as SARS on behalf of clients;
• Ensure compliance with risk management procedures on own and team assignments
• Advise clients on high level technical matters;
• Perform quality reviews on junior staff members’ technical opinions and or reports;
• Provide in writing technical opinions or reports on for clients ;
• Conduct technical training - internal and to clients as and when required;
• Keep up to date with changes in legislation relevant to specific tax areas.

Skills / Qualifications / Knowledge required:

• Relevant professional qualification (CA/ LLB and or Postgraduate studies in Tax);
• Good understanding and knowledge of SA Income Tax Act and proven experience in application thereof to clients matters;
• Extensive technical knowledge of mining tax;
• Self-starter with the ability to provide solutions to business problems;
• Good commercial awareness and an entrepreneurial approach
• Strong research skills;
• High degree of agility – the ability to respond more quickly than competitors to an opportunity;
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
• Ability to multi-task yet still pay attention to detail;
• Excellent time management skills and ability to work in a high performance team environment.
