Water/ Waste Water Operations Manager
Description and Desired Qualifications
- This position is at the DuPont Spruance client site in Richmond, VA. The Operations Manager at this Industrial project reports directly to the Project Manager. This individual has direct charge over all operations and laboratory functions of the biological treatment plant, broundwater treatment system, pretreatment, dewatering, and dechlorination systems and is responsible for setting the day-to-day schedule and operating parameters for those systems. This individual provides training to all operators in process control, laboratory procedures, and data analysis.
- [Company] operates the waste treatment systems for this advanced fiber production facility. The scope of services includes facility O&M, laboratory sampling, analysis, associated data management, technical laboratory assistance, and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit compliance. The facility has two major 200-horsepower pumps and aerated lagoons that process wastewater from six different business units. The process wastewater system has an average daily flow of 6.24-mgd, with a peak design flow of 13-mgd. Wastewater treatment, along with a groundwater pump-and-treat system, process water alum sludge management, dechlorination system, and operation of 15 sanitary sewer lift stations, requires 24-hour-per-day staffing. [Company] provides process wastewater treatment by neutralization via a 4,000-pound-per-hour lime slaker, then biological treatment by aerated lagoons and polishing pond. The O&M scope of work also includes a 160-gallon-per-minute pump-and-treat groundwater system that uses air stripping, vapor phase carbon adsorption, and two-stage liquid carbon adsorption to treat volatile and non-volatile organic compounds delivered by 50 groundwater extraction wells and evaluated by 282 monitoring wells. [Company] also manages alum sludge for the site's surface water treatment system, collecting, thickening, and dewatering alum sludge by centrifuge.
Basic Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Certification at a level required by the State in which the project is located.
- 4 years’ experience in the operations/treatment in a water waste water facility.
- Possess a valid driver's license.
- 2 years supervisor experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Operator certification at the highest level required in the State of Virginia. A six-month grace period to attain certification is acceptable. The State of Virginia does not allow reciprocity.
- Knowledge of quality processes.
- Knowledge of computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
