Senior EHS Specialist

Job Description:

  • [Company] is currently seeking an EHS Specialist for the [Company] Business Unit to be located in Midland, TX.  The position is geared towards an individual with at least 7-10 years Environmental experience in production, gas processing and pipeline operations.  The successful candidate will serve a vital role in ensuring compliance with all state and federal EHS regulations.  [Company] Permian Basin operations includes the Yates Field Unit is an oil and gas field located near Iraan, TX and consists of approximately 500 active producing and injection wells, a gas processing plant, and an NGL Plant, and includes approximately 75 employees.  The S&T operations includes 300 miles of crude oil pipelines in west Texas including two tank farms, and four breakout stations.  The S&T operations also include CO2 pipelines in eastern NM and west Texas.  The SACROC and Eastern Self production fields, near Snyder, TX consist of approximately 1200 production wells and two gas processing plants.

Responsibilities

  • Promote the Company's EHS philosophy and culture.
  • Coordinate and manage spill response and remediation.
  • Preparation of regulatory spill reports State and Federal Agencies.
  • Manage the Company Spill Prevention Program
  • Track spill trends and set EHS goals for the company
  • Assist in implementation of and adherence to the Company's EHS Management Plan.
  • Work with field personnel to identify solutions to arising EHS issues and audit findings.
  • Assist in the development and enhancement of EHS compliance review policies and procedures.
  • Provides required annual EHS training to operation groups.
  • Participate in corporate Technical Work Groups, as appropriate.  
  • Day travel is required and is anticipated to be approximately 50% away from the office.
  • Will negotiate a motor vehicle in rural areas and urban traffic environments.
  • Will carry a company-provided cell phone/pager and respond during working and non-working hours.
  • Willing to work around plant/production vessels and piping systems containing H2S and hydrocarbon gases which are flammable and may be explosive under certain circumstances.
  • This is not a supervisory position.

Experience Required

Required Skills/Knowledge

  • Minimum 7 to 10 years experience in Environmental, Health, and/or Safety operations.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, DOT, TxRRC, TCEQ and EPA regulations is essential, with air quality compliance a plus.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are necessary, including experience providing training, and interaction with employees and all levels of management, as well as ability to interact with federal, state and local agencies and officials.
  • Experience in oil and gas production, gas processing, and DOT operations.
  • Experience with SPCC and Stormwater compliance a plus.
  • Proficiency level with Microsoft Office applications and database software, specifically including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), prioritize work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
  • Must be a self starter with a high drive for results
  • Must have good time management skills and be able to handle multiple tasks/projects at same time.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license, and a driving record satisfactory to the company and it's insurers.
  • Physical requirements include, but may not be limited to, walk up and down stairs/ladders, negotiate uneven surfaces, lift and carry up to 75 pounds.

Education Required:

  • A related Bachelor's degree from an accredited University is preferred with a minimum of an Associate's Degree.
  • A minimum of seven years environmental work experience may be considered as a degree substitute.
