General Summary

  • This position is responsible for managing all aspects of a wide variety of complex and diverse payroll and accounts payable duties involving the application of standard accounting procedures in a manner consistent with Company policies and procedures as well as local, state and federal laws.

Essential Job Accountabilities

  • Responsible for process improvement to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Manage staff by providing direction, performance feedback, as well as training and development opportunities to cultivate an engaged and highly productive team.
  • Oversee the calculation, documentation and processing of employees’ regular wages, overtime, and deductions to ensure compliance with state and federal laws as well as to ensure accurate payments and reporting.
  • Manage the accounts payable function within the organization’s established policies and procedures in order to maintain an effective process.
  • Provide regular updates to SOX narratives as needed to ensure proper internal controls.
  • Manage the preparation and maintaining of disbursements, reports and statistics for government agencies and others to ensure accurate recordkeeping and reporting.
  • Prepare and review reconciliations to ensure accuracy of accounts.
  • Enforce established policies and procedures for the payroll function in order to maintain internal controls.
  • Provide impeccable overall customer service to internal and external customers to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Oversee, prepare, analyze and/or review various financial reports to ensure accuracy and to provide information to management for decision making purposes.

Education

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or equivalent business related bachelor’s degree with equivalent accounting course work
  • CPP certification a plus

Work Experience

  • 8-10 years of related accounting experience

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Strong technical knowledge of commonly-used payroll concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Ability to use independent judgment in analyzing situations and making payroll related decisions.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills
  • Deadline driven
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Advanced knowledge of JD Edwards, Excel and Word
  • Superior customer service abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, teach and engage staff
  • Occasional travel required
