General Summary
- Working under general and specific direction of the Director of Labor Relations this position is responsible for handling all forms of union grievances, arbitration dispute resolution processes and negotiating multi-employer and single employer collective bargaining agreements for the Company’s construction and material production operations on a multi-state basis to ensure procedures are administered in a manner consistent with Company policies, procedures, goals and overall strategic direction.
Essential Job Accountabilities
- Represent the company in grievance/arbitration investigations, presentations through the resolution process to ensure due process and consistency of action(s).
- Represent the Company on labor issues, DOL, DIR, E.D.D to ensure to ensure the Company’s compliance of state and federal laws.
- Develop and maintain relationships internally with Branch Managers, Construction Managers Estimator and HR Managers to ensure their awareness and understanding of union employee terms and conditions while providing them with a general working understanding of the overall labor relations process.
- Develop and maintain relationships externally with Labor Unions, Apprenticeship Coordinator, Trade Associates, Department of Labor, Department of Industrial Relations and Division of Apprenticeship Standards to stay current with policies and regulations.
- Plan, develop, recommend and implement short-term and long-term strategies for working with unions to achieve company objectives.
- Demonstrate expertise in a variety of the field’s concepts, practices and procedures.
- Manage and/or supervise labor relations staff and/or resources in the absence of the Director or as requested by same.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Labor Management or related field or equivalent experience.
Work Experience
- Minimum 7 years of traditional labor experience.
- Verifiable experience with union leaders and employees that enhanced the overall environment between management and labor.
- Demonstrable experience as a spokesperson for management in contract negotiations and similar matters/issues.
- Experience with negotiation of union collective bargaining agreements including developing proposals and contract language on a multi-state basis.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Knowledge of Federal, State and local laws and regulations pertaining to employment law in the construction industry.
- Established knowledge of Labor Relations Law, policies, practices and principles.
- Demonstrable written and oral communication skills at an advanced level.
- Ability to manage and/or supervisors others.
- Must be a master at multitasking.
Additional Requirements/Skills
- Must be able to travel 60% of time.
