Community Relations/Community Relations Manager

  • Community Relations Manager/Corporate Social Responsibility Manager. 
  • Min 12 years dealing with community work development - rural development, communications, government, or interest based negotiation/mediation, rural business development

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in a relevant field required. Relevant graduate degree preferred.
  • Professional level fluency in written and spoken English. A working knowledge of Pedi is desirable.
  • Minimum 12 years management experience dealing with community work, development.
  • One or more areas of expertise related to the position. For example, rural development, communications, government, or interest-based negotiation/mediation, rural business development
  • Awareness of emerging norms and trends in corporate social responsibility
  • Excellent cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills.

Job Specification

  • Provide leadership, oversight, management and support for the functional areas of the Community Relations Department (Community Engagement, Community Development, Communications, Government and Civil Society Relations, Local Content and CR Administration.
  • Initiate ideas, provide direction and take corrective action as required.
  • Maintain constructive and mutually beneficial relationships with communities and other external stakeholders
  • Act as a key member of the site management team.  
  • Works to ensure effective communication and an understanding of how CR issues, programs, and activities fit into overall site and regional operations.  
  • Ensures effective and cordial collaboration with other departments while pursuing both company and community interests.
  • Promote and implement the Company’s CR and Comm Development vision, strategy, policies and standards and lead continuous improvement at the site.
  • Liaise with other Ivanplats sites with respect to best practices and tools, and lead site operations in the development and use of those practices and tools.
  • Develop appropriate systems to monitor and evaluate the various activities of the CR department and which can be readily communicated in a timely manner to internal stakeholders as well as external stakeholders.
  • Attract, develop and retain a highly effective team who provides guidance and expertise to operations. 
  • Define goal and performance objectives for each team member to include individual development plans to build a strong succession pool for the CR organization.
  • Must have extensive social knowledge within South African traditions/customs and must have been involved within communities and successfully completed corporate projects, economic growth programmes and public consultation awareness specific to the mining industry.
