Description and Desired Qualifications

Helping our communities stay safely on the move.  As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will lead geotechnical tasks and provide leadership to geotechnical staff on projects being performed by [Company] transportation, water, energy, and environmental business groups. These projects will include both conventional design-bid-build projects, as well as design-build projects. Your responsibilities will include leading projects in the development and implementation of geotechnical field exploration and laboratory testing programs, geotechnical analyses, preparation of geotechnical data and design reports, development of earthwork specifications, and providing support during project construction. Each day, you will have the opportunity to follow projects from concept development through the construction phase with our engineers. You should have a desire to grow personally as well as professionally with each geotechnical engineering job.
  • You should be a self-motivated professional with a proven and successful 12-15 year experience record in Geotechnical Engineering, possess a BS in Civil Engineering and a MS/PhD with an emphasis in Geotechnical Engineering, and have or be able to obtain a PE in the State of Washington.
  • Your experience should include geotechnical design and construction in one or more of the following areas: roadway and bridge projects, port developments, and mass transit systems; water conveyance, water storage, and water and wastewater treatment plant projects; and infrastructure projects involving energy development or environmental clean-ups. Good task and people management skills are essential in this position.
  • This position requires a geotechnical engineer who has a keen interest in mentoring junior staff, who wants to function as part of a large interdisciplinary design team, who can interact with our existing and perspective clients, who can provide support to business development efforts, and who will assist the regional business group and geotechnical leadership in advancing the technical capabilities of the regional office and global geotechnical group. This position could include serving as an operational lead to other geotechnical engineers.
  • Technical skills that are required to serve in this geotechnical role include, but are not necessarily limited to, knowledge and experience in the following areas:
  • Exploration methods (soil and rock borings, test pits, CPT probes, seismic geophysical testing), geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring, and laboratory testing for soil (classification, strength, consolidation, and cyclic) and rock; Inspection of earth retaining structures, deep foundations (drilled shafts and driven piles), tunnels, foundation subgrade, and shallow foundations; Design of shallow and deep foundations, earth retaining structures, above and below ground tanks, pipelines, embankment and cut slopes, and ground improvement; Earthquake hazard evaluations, including liquefaction assessments, site-specific ground response analyses, and development of design spectra; Preparation of technical reports, data reports, and baseline reports Computer programs including SETTLE3D, GRLWEAP, LPILE, SLIDE or SLOPE, SHAFT, DRIVEN, MATHCAD, FB-Multipier, PLAXIS, and FLAC; and Preparation of design drawings and specifications.

Basic Qualifications

  • 12-15 year experience record in Geotechnical Engineering
  • BS in Civil Engineering and a MS/PhD with an emphasis in Geotechnical Engineering
  • PE in the State of Washington or ability to obtain within one year
