Job Description

  • [Company] is seeking a Site Safety & Health Officer in support of the West Sound Base Operations Support Contract, located in Puget Sound/Bremerton area of Washington State.

Overall Purpose of Job:

  • The purpose of this position is to create and sustain a productive work culture and safe work environment in order to avoid and minimize HSE related problems. These problems include but are not limited to human injury, environmental degradation and unsafe working conditions/practices. This is done through health, safety and environmental training, programs, and processes with a visible and uncompromised commitment to the protection of the environment as well as the productivity of the Company’s employees.

Primary Job Duties/Functions:

  • Plans and directs safety and health activities in the organization or plant to evaluate and control safety and environmental hazards. Develop, monitor, and implement the organization's health and safety policy; to ensure the organization is compliant with health and safety legislation; and to reduce or prevent hazards, dangers and accidents.
  • Tests noise levels and measures air quality, using precision instruments.
  • Maintains and calibrates instruments.
  • Administers hearing tests to employees.
  • Trains forklift operators to qualify for licensing.
  • Enforces use of safety equipment.
  • Trains, lectures, and educates employees on safe and efficient work methods to obtain compliance of regulations.
  • Develops and monitors emergency action plans.
  • Investigates accidents and incidents and prepares accident/incident reports.
  • Assists management to prepare safety and health budget.
  • Recommends changes in policies and procedures to prevent accidents and illness.
  • Ensures project site adheres to company and regulatory HSE standards and guidelines.
  • Conducts onsite risk assessment and mitigation.
  • Applies regulatory requirements to provide guidance to project management; participate in monitoring and controlling HSE standards, applicable laws and regulations; and design and review a project plan or schematic to ensure compliance with all governmental regulations and Company/Client requirements.
  • Maintains and applies a working knowledge of the Company’s HSE standards, programs and goals by learning and applying HSE procedures as established by the Company on a project site or in an office through departmental training.
  • Promotes and fosters Company HSE standards and goals with programs throughout the Company and/or project to ensure a safe and productive work environment.
  • Prepares, maintains, interprets and communicates records, reports, or documents that may be required to meet corporate or regulatory requirements, including monitoring application of HSE standards and goals through its programs.
  • Provides input for HSE permit preparation on projects by maintaining knowledge of current guidelines and regulations.
  • Other related duties/functions as assigned.
  • The applicant must be willing to be assigned to the Greenville office on a temporary assignment and then mobilize to project site upon contract award.

Basic Job Requirements

  • Five Years of experience in preparing and enforcing safety programs on contracts of similar size and complexity.
  • OSHA 30 hour construction safety class or equivalent within the last five years.
  • Completed an average of at least 24 hours of formal safety and health related coursework every four years.

  • Effective communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior Military and/or Contingency Operations experience preferred.
  • Accredited Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Intermediate computer and software skills to include the use of word processing and email as well as the intermediate use of spreadsheets and electronic presentations.
