Manager, Engineering - Mine

Overview:

  • The Manager of Engineering is responsible for directing the activities of the mining engineering group.  Provide reserve evaluations, mine planning and project expansion studies.  Provide staff engineering support for all areas of the mine.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with operations personnel in the development of mine plans and refinement of mining methods and operating procedures;
  • Develop detailed mine plans for existing operations and potential reserve areas;
  • Provide engineering support for mine contractors and all construction activity;
  • Develop and design drainage control plans and mine waste disposal areas;
  • Prepare, organize and direct detailed project engineering and evaluation through engineering feasibility studies;
  • Define proper mining methods, equipment, mine site facilities, operating costs and manpower requirements;
  • Train and develop engineering personnel for current and future activities;
  • Maintain knowledge of regulations and procedures related to water discharges and other aspects pertinent to mine planning and permitting.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Will provide authority of knowledge to VP Mining and Mine Manager and will provide direct supervision of the Mine Engineer.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering is required and Mining Engineering is preferred.
  • Registered Professional Engineer or have the ability to obtain is preferred.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal mining regulations.
  • Safety and health hazards associated with the mining of coal.
  • High safety standards for self and others.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to coordinate with all levels of management and co-workers.
  • Ability to read and understand mine plans.
  • Utilize software such as Excel, Word, AutoCad/ SurvCadd, etc.
  • Willing to work any shift, and on scheduled weekends.  Subject to call-outs twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week.
  • Provide a comprehensive coal blending program to supply a coal quality within specifications to the power plant.
