Metallurgist

A Global Mining Company with exploratory projects in Guinea and Liberia has an opening for a Metallurgist / Metallurgical Engineer to oversee every stage of ore extraction and manufacturing.

Work on a rotational basis of 4 weeks on and 2 weeks off for the duration of the project (approximately 2 years).

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or equivalent Process related degrees
• Able to research, analyze information and draw conclusions, and take action to resolve operational, environmental issues, permit compliance and problem resolution from an operating plant status
• Supervisory experience preferred
• Ability to work and construct a positive and motivated team environment
• Strong communications, excellent problem solving, decision making, strong prioritization skills
• Self-motivation, self-discipline and high energy are critical to your success

Key Performance Areas

• Refining and alloying extracted metals
• Involved with the day-to-day safe production
• Plant improvements & economic development, quality control and troubleshooting problems
• Work closely with production, maintenance supervision and outside departments to ensure environmental compliance and safe functionality of plant operation and maintaining of equipment
• Direct, train and evaluate skills of subordinates and provide coaching for development
• Manage projects both capital and in plant through all aspects of engineering, forecasting, funding, construction and commissioning
• Provide technical assistance & analysis to process group stakeholders
• Focus on quality and cost control, by overseeing the inspection and analysis of incoming materials, the extraction process, and the sampling of extracted metals
• May make changes in one or more extractive processes based upon visual inspection as well as chemical analysis
• May also conduct experiments to find new or improved extractive procedures
• Develop and optimize manufacturing line-ups, provide disposition of off-standard material and review and negotiate specifications
• Work to maintain a high rating for the customer quality scorecard
• Meet deliverables for important projects Participate in, as well as lead the regularly scheduled technical meetings Plan & manage production, liaise with engineering team on equipment maintenance and availabilities
• Responsible for budget control within section
• Determine the cause of metal failures and recommend materials for reliable performance in various environments
• Devise testing methods to evaluate the effects of various conditions and use scientific instruments to study results
