Mining Operations Manager

The Opportunity:

Please note: this position is based in Saskatchewan. We advertise in various locations to raise the visibility of this opportunity for those interested in relocating.

Our client, a contracting company in the mining industry, seeks to engage an Operations Manager to oversee assigned contract operations in a safe and profitable manner.

The successful candidate will have at least 10 years of experience and a professional engineering designation.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the assigned projects with respect to operational, financial, contractual and technical matters.
  • Assist with the development of the company’s business and the building of good relationships with existing, new and potential clients.
  • Participate in bid reviews and assist in the development of estimates for future projects.
  • Ensure implementation of and adherence to the Safety Management Plan at all projects assigned to you.
  • Assist area managers and project site management when and as needed.
  • Liaise with clients with respect to operational, financial, contractual and technical matters, in conjunction with site staff and area managers.
  • Prepare budgets and forecasts for your area of responsibility as required.
  • Ensure both physical and financial site forecasts are prepared and are accurate and realistic.
  • Ensure that budgets are met or exceeded.
  • Obtain and manage human resources and equipment as required and ensure that appropriate use is made of these resources to maximize safety, quality and profitability.
  • Ensure that company policies are updated, developed, implemented and adhered to for areas under your control to ensure consistent performance and management.
  • Ensure that the accountabilities and responsibilities of subordinates are clearly communicated to those employees and that they are managed according to those accountabilities and responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in engineering.
  • Professional engineering designation.
  • 10 or more years experience.
  • Must have worked in the mining industry.
  • Previous work experience for a contractor is an asset.
  • Adaptable to different situations, projects, work hours, etc.
  • Team player as well as an individual player.
  • Embraces change and thinks “outside the box”.
  • Computer proficient.

Compensation:

  • Salary is commensurate with experience.
  • Bonus structure and benefits package is included.
