This is an onshore position based in our Aberdeen office reporting to the Consultant Structural Engineer.
Job Scope:
To prepare and implement plans and processes in conjunction with the Subsea Engineering and Tooling Manager to facilitate efficient day-to-day running of the department in line with the Integrated Management System. To organise and co-ordinate structural engineering activities within the team for Subsea designs and operations. Establish client relationships, develop and present department capabilities with a view to growing the business.
Main Role:
• Responsible to deliver packages of work for engineering activities and technical assurance as agreed with the Consultant Structural Engineer.
• General support to the Consultant Structural Engineer on project issues resulting in the timely delivery and execution of the project
• Assist the Consultant Structural Engineer with planning to meet project goals and objectives.
• Adhere to the project budget and schedule as agreed with CSE for structural support.
• To work and communicate with all parties involved, in the operational performance of the project/s within his/her responsibility.
• To communicate with the Consultant Structural Engineer all technical issues pertinent to the structural input of the project.
• To produce/record/file reports and calculations as deemed necessary.
• Generating structural design, analysis, calculations using governing codes and standards like AISC, DNV etc., and from first principles.
• Provide input to, direct and approve generation of structural drawings or drawings that require structural support.
• Knowledge and/or experience of working with structural analysis software like STAAD Pro or equivalent, finite element analysis software like ANSYS or equivalent, and spreadsheets like MathCAD.
• Visit operational sites (onshore and offshore) on an ad-hoc basis at critical/key project milestones as agreed with the Consultant Structural Engineer
• Ensure work packages and data deliverables are compiled and filed in accordance with project procedures.
• Liaise with teams within the department as necessary for provision of structural support.
• Liaise with third parties, suppliers, and client representatives as required for realization of structural support.
• Contribute to design and safety reviews, HAZOP, HAZIDs, risk assessments etc, both internally and externally, as required.
• Carry out any other mutually agreeable activity within the scope and capabilities of the individual.
Position requirements
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
• Honours Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Naval Architecture.
• Design and detailing in accordance with acknowledged structural standards, client specifications and scopes of work.
• Structural Capacity Calculations on Frames, Plates, Lifting, Rigging.
• Structural Capacity Analyses for Vessels, Subsea Structures, Equipments, Lifting.
• Production of deliverables which may include engineering support for drawings, design calculations, procedures, analysis, bid evaluations and various 3rd party submissions.
• Preparation and delivery of work through technical engineering reports, presentations.
• Experience in use of STAAD (or similar structural analysis programs).
• Experience in use of structural codes AISC, DNV etc.
• Engineering assistance, structural calculations, design, analysis, and site visits in support of mobilisations of
• ROV. Interface with disciplines in SEIT, asset & project managers across FSSL and OPCOs across [Company] .
• Understanding of QHSE polices and practices. As well as in accordance with [Company] QHSE and procedures.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
• Chartered Engineer.
• Relevant post graduate degree.
• Local and component analyses.
• Marine loading.
• Experience in use of FE Packages like ABAQUS/ ANSYS.
• Experience/working knowledge of ORCAFLEX.
