OVERALL OBJECTIVE:
The position of Senior Geochemist is at grade SC6/SC7 of [Company] grading structure. This is a senior position and the post holder will need to be able to demonstrate that they can manage large projects and provide technical solutions to Clients needs and requirements.
KEY TASKS:
The following is an outline of the duties that would be required for this position, although is not exhaustive.
• To act as an expert in the field of Geochemistry and be able to provide an understanding of other relevant disciplines where required
• Management of major projects over an extended timeframe of significant financial value up to £1 million.
• Development of project briefs with clients and amend project specifications where necessary.
• Have full, up to date technical knowledge and awareness and the ability to develop new technologies.
• Participation in integrated, multi disciplinary projects with an emphasis on basin evolution and petroleum systems evaluation
• Project based work requiring a high level of individual initiative to manage proprietary studies and interpret data from geochemical studies of rocks and oils for the purpose of petroleum exploration and production (Reservoir Geochemistry).
• To demonstrate a significant amount of independent decision-making and the ability to innovate and communicate with both clients and also internally with other service divisions of the company.
• Significant data basing skills and the ability to load and manipulate data for reporting purposes and use in various modelling and other soft ware packages.
• Largely office based, there will be involvement in client contact for project related work and promotional reasons, which may result in some foreign travel.
• Offer authoritative advice and guidance to clients and colleagues in a stand-alone capacity.
• Any other duties as required by the Department Manager to ensure the efficient and effective running of the Geochemistry department.
GENERAL TASKS:
• Update and improve skills and knowledge base.
• To attend Training and Development courses/workshops as deemed necessary.
• Work in accordance with Security, Quality, Health, Safety and Environment policies and procedures.
• To be part of a proactive team of staff responsible for delivering a high quality customer-focused professional service.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
• BSc Degree in Earth Sciences of similar
• MSc Degree or PhD in Petroleum Geochemistry
• Significant experience pf working for an oil and gas production or service Company in a similar role
• Familiarity with industry standard software
• Good database/IT skills would be an advantage
• Client liaison experience
• Previous experience of project management, with budgetary responsibilities
• Experience of working on multi-disciplinary projects
• Previous experience in developing and coaching others
