Project Director Mining - New Project

My client with operations throughout the Nordic Regions are looking to employ a Project Director for their new mine which is due to start the planning phase and construction asap.

Excellent project management skills are a must for this role.

Key tasks and responsibilities


Commissioning of a Cable Car access to the mine
• Monitor the performance of the 2 principle contractors
• Report performance/progress at least monthly against master programme
• Monitor cost build up based on hours worked, men on site, etc.
• Maintain a rolling forecast of the project cost
• Prepare an amended Emergency Response Plan to take account of the Cable Car
• Design, Planning, Financing Phase
• Contribute to the review of the plant, mine and camp design
• Ensure that cost estimates/quotes are constantly updated
• Maintain a master file (electronic and hard copy) of all drawings with effective version control
• Prepare and submit permit applications to the regulatory bodies to ensure that work is authorised and can proceed on time

Mine and process plant construction phase
Develop a project management plan to ensure that
• All equipment, plant components and materials are ordered and are on site in time for work to commence on time
• All consumables are also ordered and delivered to site on time
• Co-ordinate freight to minimise the overall cost
• All contractor`s and own labour is on site when needed
• Monitor and report weekly and monthly progress in terms of adherence to timetable and cost
• Ensure that site services are competent and in place, including: cooks, housekeeping, mechanical and electrical services engineers and paramedics.

Team building and development
• Ensure that there is effective site management on site at all times
• Recruit and build a team, comprising own employees and contractors, to build and operate the mine and the plant

Relationship with the Local Community
• To develop and maintain good relationships with the local community in accordance with the objectives of the Impact Benefit Agreement

Reporting
• To ensure that all company required reports and management information are accurate and submitted on time
• To ensure that all reports required by the Regulatory Body are accurate and submitted on time
• Health & Safety
• To ensure that the highest standards of health & safety are observed
• To ensure that no visitors enter the mine or the mill without proper PPE, instructions on how to use a self rescuer and basic emergency procedures. No visitor must be allowed into restricted areas unaccompanied.
• Ensure that a record is made of all accidents.
• Ensure that the mine rescue team are effectively trained and have regular practice/drill
• TO IMMEDIATELY STOP DANGEROUS OPERATIONS

Environmental
• To ensure that instances of environmental damage are recorded and reported.
• To take action to prevent further damage and make good existing damage, where ever possible.

People management
• Providing inspiration, direction, motivation and leadership

Personal Profile
• Education & qualifications
• A degree in a mining related subject plus experience of successfully managing projects and building effective teams.

Character
• Strong leadership abilities with ability to delegate and control
• Able to work in stressful situations
• Imaginative problem solver
• Enjoy working as part of a team
• Willing to work 7 days per week for 10 hours per day
• Great sense of humor
• Good physical shape
• Tenacious will to succeed

Background and Experience
• Experience of developing mining and mineral processing projects
• Clean driving licence.
