Maintenance Technician
Essential Functions:
- Ensure that all maintenance activities in a facility are appropriately carried out.
- Keep accurate records of all maintenance and service activities conducted and maintaining a cycle of the same. Maintain and improve the preventative maintenance program for all mechanical equipment that accommodates manufacturer's suggested systems and parts checks on all facility equipment into the ongoing preventative maintenance schedule.
- Plan labor and material needs for designated maintenance and repair projects and handle all coordination of schedules to accomplish required tasks.
- Administer calls for troubleshooting on building and mechanical systems including the review of requests for service, determining whether problems can be resolved in-house, setting priorities and performing or coordinating required work.
- Schedule, assign and perform grounds maintenance functions such as mowing grass, trimming lawns and shrubs, raking, blowing leaves, shoveling snow, spreading salt, repairing roads and fences, managing fire breaks and sterilization and other related grounds tasks.
- As required, determine the need for outside contractors and assist in the preparation of bid specifications and the selection of contractors; serve as liaison with contractors and review work of contractors for conformity to standards.
- Administer general repairs such as painting, patching walls, security hardware, hanging shelves, landscaping, etc.
- Perform on-call duties for after-hour issues or emergencies, review the nature of the required task and perform maintenance repair or arrange for an outside entity to resolve the problem.
- Assist Pilot Plant staff in performing routine and non routine operations related to making explosive and explosive precursor products as part of developing, improving or troubleshooting products and/or processes.
- Assist R&D staff in the provision of new and improved products, technology or processes within the Company's objectives by participating in scientific experiments which are critical to corporate product and process developments.
- Demonstrate and encouraging a disciplined approach to compliance in all elements of the Company's policies, processes and procedures.
- Contribute to the research efforts of the Company as directed by R&D management and various project team leaders.
- Operate, maintain and repair all process equipment and typical industrial power sources.
- Perform physical characterizations and other scientific testing and development related to projects to support research and production activities in accordance with business objectives.
- Consult with R&D scientists, engineering staff and field personnel, and perform testing as required to resolve technical issues and field problems.
- Decision Making Authority: Must make clear and decisive choices concerning maintenance requirements, expenditures, timelines, scheduling and compliance to safely and cost-effectively maintain all site assets.
Major Challenges:
- Ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to manage repairs and administration of highly technical equipment and assets in a hazardous environment.
- Must be available for on-call requirements 24 hours a day during certain project periods and seasons with custody of a company fleet vehicle.
Basic Qualifications
- Education: HS grad or equivalent required. Eighteen months of education and training beyond high school level in general maintenance and repair, or a closely related area.
- Additional education related to mechanical, electrical or industrial processing is highly suggested; other disciplines /experience closely related to industrial chemical processing will be considered.
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years industrial, chemical process or related process equipment maintenance experience is required.
Technical:
- Must be able to operate, maintain and repair highly technical and industrial process and mobile equipment.
- Must be able to effectively install, maintain and repair select component of electrical systems and equipment
- Requires training and certification as for lock-out/tag-out plan administration.
- Requires knowledge and experience with administering planned maintenance programs that meet regulatory standards for health and safety.
- Must be able to effectively manage hazardous chemical inventories including communication requirements, storage and handling.
- Must have excellent comprehension of chemical hazards.
- Ability to operate, troubleshoot and repair a variety of power sources and motors or drive systems used in industrial operations, as well as mechanical systems, and other chemical conveyance systems, vehicles or other types of mobile equipment.
- Must administer all aspects of site equipment and infrastructure maintenance to ensure the timely completion of Research and Developmental projects and support activities.
- Intermediate skill level utilizing computer software (MS Office and Lotus Notes applications). Ability to learn and adapt to proprietary software utilized with process controllers.
- Must satisfy the requirements for a "possessor of explosives" as defined by the Bureau of Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
- Must satisfy the requirements for a commercial driver's license (CDL) with Hazmat endorsement.
