Mining Engineer (Underground)

Job Duties:

This position will report to the Vice President of Underground Mining and will have a wide variety of responsibilities including:

  • Working on multi-disciplinary teams to conduct mining related studies
  • Developing 2D and 3D mining models on a variety of mineral deposits
  • Developing mine plans and mining schedules
  • Preparing mining cost estimates
  • Writing technical reports
  • Presenting mine planning results to clients
  • Providing consulting expertise to Norwest’s global client list.

Education Required:

  • Bachelors Degree in Mining Engineering or a related engineering degree.

Experience Required:

  • Minimum of 5 years post university experience in the mining industry with an emphasis on underground coal mining and longwall operations.

Special Requirements:

  • Specific mining industry experience in technical and/or management roles.
  • Thorough working knowledge of common and mining-specific computer applications.
  • Must be willing to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Candidates with expertise in operating Carlson SurvCAD planning and utility packages with some 3D block modeling software experience and/or foreign language skills will be given priority consideration.

Location of Employment: Salt Lake City, Utah or Charleston, WV. Successful candidate will be willing to work in remote field locations (inside and outside the United States) for extended periods.
