Geochemist/Hydrogeologist
Job Duties:
Norwest Corporation has an opportunity in its Denver, Colorado office for a geochemist/hydrogeologist with experience in evaluating the chemistry of natural waters within a hydrogeologic framework, for mining and energy projects.
This position will entail office and field work. The successful candidate will be responsible for some sampling, evaluating and presentation of geochemical data including isotopic, and developing conceptual and computer models of surface and groundwater chemistry. Use of Access and SQL databases and PHREEQ or similar equilibrium models is required, and some familiarity with Geochemists Work Bench would be an asset.
While this person’s function will be primarily geochemistry, he or she will also likely become involved in hydrologic testing and hydraulic analysis, and in numerical groundwater modeling. Norwest fosters multi-disciplinary breadth in its professionals.
Range of Responsibilities:
- Chemical data assessments, analysis, presentation and reporting
- Chemistry models, conceptual and computer based
- Chemical data quality assurance
- Overseeing well drilling and installation
- Aquifer testing, data collection and analysis
- Numerical groundwater modeling, hydraulic and transport
- Mapping findings with AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Surfer and other software
Education and Position Requirements:
- Master's Degree in geology, chemistry and/or hydrology or relevant environmental field, and at least 5 to 10 years of experience required
- Experience in analysis and reporting of the chemistry of groundwater and surface water (mainly inorganic chemistry), including the use of stable isotopes, chemical modeling, and presentation graphics
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated abilities to work with multi-disciplinary groups within the organization as well as outside experts
- Experience in all or any of groundwater hydraulic modeling (MODFLOW, FEFLOW), transport modeling; Geochemist’s Work Bench experience would be a plus
- Additional hydrogeology experience also an asset:
- Well design and installation
- Aquifer testing
Additional Desirable Skills:
- Basic safety training
- Competence with field equipment and procedures
- Advanced experience with complex spreadsheets (MS Excel) and formulas
- Detail oriented, highly organized, and have the ability to work with voluminous data
- AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Surfer
- ArcGIS
