Environmental Technician

Primary Focus:

  • Under immediate supervision performs quantitative and qualitative analyses. 
  • Conducts technical activities in accordance with established procedures. 
  • Performs set-up of complex instruments and equipment. 
  • Operates electronic equipment.  Periodically inspects equipment and performs preventive maintenance work.  Assembles data and maintains records.  Works on special projects, as assigned.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities include but not limited to the following.

  • Performs monitoring of wells with field instrumentation.  Bails monitoring wells to remove liquid phase hydrocarbons.  Conducts development, purging, and sampling of monitoring wells.
  • Conducts sampling of remediation system air emissions and groundwater discharge samples, as needed.
  • Collects soil samples as directed.
  • Collects and prepares samples for submission to the laboratory for pre-determined analysis.  Completes chain of custody documents and ensures proper sample storage and transportation.  Submits samples to appropriate laboratory.
  • Properly decontaminates/calibrates all field equipment.
  • Maintains site-specific field notebook with all daily field information in addition to filling out required paperwork to be submitted to supervisor.
  • Conducts surveying and mapping of sites, as needed.
  • Handles preventive maintenance of field equipment.
  • Performs on-site supervision of technicians, drill crews, and construction crews.
  • Reviews field records for accuracy and delivery to appropriate individuals.
  • Maintains assigned company vehicle in accordance with guidelines established by Fleet Department.
  • When called upon, responds to emergency response calls.
  • Audits sites for soil piles/drums.
  • If applicable, performs the monitoring UST sumps and dispenser pans per Client and Regulatory specifications.
  • If applicable, coordinates sump inspection schedule to ensure sites are completed on a monthly basis as required.
  • Operates and maintains ICE, if applicable, including required permit monitoring.
  • Assists with performance of slug tests as needed.
  • Assists with performance of remedial pilot tests, as needed.

Job Requirements:
Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma required Bachelor's degree preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Valid driver's license.  
  • 40 hour OSHA training, with 8 hour refresher required.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works outdoor.
