Overall Job Purpose:
- Assist the Safety Manager and mine management team in the development and implementation of safety and training programs, as well as ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations and company policies for all [Company] Corporation job sites.
Responsibilities Include:
- Conduct job observations and inspections of surface and underground areas of the mine
- Must have organizational and communication skills to motivate other people to work in a safe and productive manner
- Develop and disseminate safety information to all levels of the hourly and management workforce
- Design curriculum and course content for surface and underground mining operations training programs including annual refresher courses, weekly job talks, job safety highlights, new hire training, and foreman education programs
- Oversee and conduct regulatory required training including Part 48, 77, and 75
- Partner with HR Department Manager and Superintendents to develop employee related learning initiatives/programs
- Develop, schedule, and support outside training sources for courses such as EMT-M, first aid, electrical qualification, fire training, etc.
- Assist in citation prevention and conferencing of citations
- Assist in injury prevention and conduct injury and near miss investigations, and make recommendations to prevent similar occurrences
Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelor Degree in Safety or related field, preferred
- 3+ years underground mining experience required
- Possess, or able to obtain, MSHA & West Virginia Instructor Certification
- Possess, or able to obtain, MSHA Dust Sampling Certification
- EMT-M certification preferred
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent safety and attendance record required
- Display excellent communication (written and oral) skills with emphasis on motivational ability
- Knowledge of mine rescue and assist with training of team
