Our client, an Independent Power Producer with a 25 year history of developing and operating hydroelectric facilities, has a backlog of projects to be rolled out over the next 10 years. With a strong management team, our client is now building a project delivery team of top performing project execution professionals. This is an adventurous opportunity that is offering a construction professional the chance to join a growing organization.

Position Overview:

The Project Manager will be reporting into the Director of Construction and will be responsible for managing a major Company project. Including management of project consultants, administering owner’s engineering services, overseeing multiple engineer-procure-construct and/or construction contracts, overseeing major supply and equipment contracts, monitoring and updating project budgets and schedules, monitoring progress and administering payments, preparation of project reports and reports to lenders, assisting with project planning and estimating, assisting with bidding and contracting.

The position will be based in Mississauga until the project is ready for construction mobilization. Once the project is field ready, the Project Manager will relocate to the project site working on a rotation basis until completion. The project location is in Quebec and the successful candidate will need to be fully bilingual.

Responsibilities:

  • Management of internal staff and consultants reporting through you;
  • Management of major design-build, construction, supply, and services contracts;
  • Assist with the preliminary and detailed design of projects with a view to constructability;
  • Assist with the cost estimates and schedules for projects, and assist with the preparation of project proposals;
  • Assist with the proposal and bidding process for a project, and evaluation of bids for services, equipment and facilities;
  • Assist with the contracting for engineers, services companies, contractors, and suppliers to construct, inspect, monitor, and commission a project;
  • Manage from the owner’s perspective the engineer-procure-construct, construction, supply, installation, and/or services contracts on a project, including oversight, administration, inspecting, auditing, reporting, and problem resolution;
  • Create schedules and track progress through to completion of all project aspects and milestones;
  • Ensure Health & Safety Policies are understood and followed;
  • Provide professional judgement and insight regarding project activities;
  • Provide verbal and written project status updates and reports;
  • Identify and manage overall project dependencies and ensure deliverables stay on-time, on-target and on-budget;
  • Identifying on a timely basis all project barriers and identify strategies and approaches to overcome these barriers;
  • Manage, monitor and control costs and prepare forecasts for each project with variances explained and proper corrective action taken as required to meet the approved budget
  • Prepare requests for changes in scope, budget and schedule if any
  • Apply uniformly across the corporation, current mechanical, civil and electrical design standards and procedures as well as governmental and regulatory board standards as applicable
  • Provide high quality and timely technical assistance for the commissioning, start up and optimization of new facilities and initiate timely and proper corrective action as required to meet the project objectives.
  • Ensure all correspondence and documentation is filed and maintained in an efficient and well organized manner.

Requirements:

  • Project Management experience on large infrastructure or heavy industrial projects worth $75 MM+ or greater, preferably through construction phases
  • Must have managed or supervised the work of multidiscipline construction teams; including civil, mechanical, and electrical contractors
  • At least 10 years experience managing construction budgets ($75 MM+), progress reports, schedules and subcontractors
  • Preferably looking for 15+ years of overall experience in the Engineering & Construction sector
  • Ability to multitask and manage concurrent contracts;
  • Skilled at managing and administering contract documentation; must possess strong reporting skills
  • Superior communication skills both written and oral (French would be an asset);
  • Possess strong leadership skills and be able to provide professional judgement while performing role;
  • Posses a strong command of the French & English language, both written and oral
  • Have a strong working knowledge of MS Office, MS Project, project controls and estimating software;
  • Willingness and ability relocate between head office and project sites for periods of 1 to 3 years.
