Financial Analyst

Job Summary:

  • We are seeking a Financial Analyst/ Operational Cost Manager (OCM) for our North American Operation located in Ghent, KY.  Under general direction, the OCM is responsible for more complex cost analyses and audits associated with the plant functions. Applies principles of cost accounting to conduct studies which provide support to the Operations team by performing the following duties.

Requirements:
Primary Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Performs in-depth site reviews with the Site Manager or Area General Manager covering all aspects of the operation, sales, costs, investment, organization and equipment. Validates this reports and presents to Regional and Corporate Management.
  • Generates a detailed report that include an action plan with findings/Comments/actions/who/date.
  • Responsible for completion and follow up of the action plan created by site review.
  • Site reviews can be done outside area of responsibility in order to benchmark & creating consistency across sites.
  • In conjunction with the Maintenance Manager, developing a strategic key asset replacement plan for each site which includes depreciation charge projection and Approval level. Updates this plan every 6 months.
  • Defining the accurate Key performance indicators per site to cover all activities and determining targets.
  • Set up a daily recording system in order to provide a daily updated dashboard to the site superintendent and the Area Management.
  • Follow Up of the implementation of KPIs. Analyzing trend, variation, variance against target.
  • Plans study and collects data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, inventory, and labor.
  • Analyzes actual manufacturing costs and prepares periodic report comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
  • Records cost information for use in controlling expenditures.
  • Analyzes audits of costs and prepares reports.
  • Compiles cost information to be used in operating budget preparation.
  • Makes estimates of new and proposed product or service costs. Works with Purchasing department to develop Vendor Evaluations, Best Purchasing Practices, Volume discounts, Long Term Contracts, Subcontract Maintenance, and Leasing Agreements.
  • Provides management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products or services.
  • Participates in the development and the follow up of the hourly incentive program.
  • Participates in Month-End Closing procedures by ensuring accurate accounting of all revenue and cost in the month, reviewing site numbers to detect any discrepancies and anomalies, ensuring inventories issues have been corrected, ensuring that the Finished Goods inventories has been updated with correct valuation, the valuation is correct, compares, time entry hours to payroll hours, and prepares a detailed comments of the month results in Sales and Costs comparing actual numbers with Plan & last Forecast numbers by activity.
  • Responsible for site planning and forecasting and compliance issues.

Other Requirements:

  • Willingness and ability to travel to various Metals locations - Up to 20% travel.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from four year college or university in accounting, finance or business administration.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in cost accounting.
  • Ability to use PC and Microsoft Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Excel and computerized accounting and costing systems.
  • Experience with JD Edwards or Oracle software.
  • Cost accounting experience in steel mill or other similar manufacturing environment.
