Health and Safety Specialist

We are currently recruiting a Health and Safety Specialist for our client who is a leader in Occupational Health and Safety for mineral exploration and mining. They are looking to hire an experienced professional with solid leadership skills and a demonstrated commitment to growth and development.

The role is base out of Vancouver and includes interacting at a high level with clients, managers, contactor, and staff as a key member of the management team. The Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for the strategic development, implementation, and management of all occupational health and safety initiatives.

Job Description:

• Plans and executes a wide range of Safety measures and corrective action to meet organizational objectives
• Supports employees and management to ensure compliance with regulatory Health, Safety, and Environmental laws and regulations
• Drives company's “Zero Loss to Life” initiative with continuous improvement in client safety performance by implementing short and long term strategies to achieve corporate goals
• Establishes relationships with strategic business partners and represents the company on all Health and Safety related issues to external clients, internal clients, and governmental entities
• Develops, organizes, and implements risk management and loss prevention strategies, manuals, and support documentation as required
• Proactively supports project teams to achieve safety goals

Required Skills:

• Minimum 5 years of experience in OH&S at a supervisory or managerial level
• Post secondary education in Health and Safety and/or related education in a technical/engineering/science field
• Thorough knowledge of provincial legislations, Health and Safety Acts, work practices, and mining industry standards
• Experience in OH&S management systems, program development, and implementation
• Technical writing background in order to create safety programs
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Possess good problem solving skills through the exercise of good judgment
• Working toward a recognized Safety Certification by accredited association preferred (i.e. CRSP)
• Ability to be flexible, work well under pressure, and open to travel throughout Canada for business related matters
• Proficiency with MS Office (word and excel), solid follow through, attention to detail, and problem solving skills
