Health and Safety Director

Overview:

  • This position is responsible for supervising and providing program oversight to [Company] Inc. health and safety initiatives, both in satellite offices, and environmental construction sites.  In addition to supervision, this position oversees development and implementation of behavior based safety practices, audits functions for health and safety procedure implementation, ensure compliance with OSHA safety requirements, implementation of [Company], safety requirements with subcontractors, and conducting root-cause analysis of health and safety incidents.  The position oversees development of site specific health and safety plans for remediation and other construction projects.

Responsibilities:

  • The Director’s scope of responsibility is nation-wide.
  • The Director, Health and Safety provide leadership and direction to project managers and program managers at [Company], office locations and construction sites. He/She serves as the subject matter expert with Market Segment and Client leaders, clients, regulators, financers, [Company] Staff working on or designing construction projects, and contractors.  The Director monitors resources and project budgets and serves as the primary contact on health and safety policy for the Construction Services Group.  The position requires 30-50% travel.
  • This position reports to the Director of Construction Services.  The Director works independently to resolve day to day operational issues and seeks direction in the areas of policy, legal actions, client relationships and financial goal setting.
  • The position is responsible for establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with [Company] clients, site Health and Safety Managers, business units, local representatives and subcontractors.

The Director is required to be competent in the following:

  • Industrial  and Construction Health and Safety knowledge
  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA requirements.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy and remedial construction means and methods.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong supervision skills, particularly supervising off-site personnel
  • Business/financial acumen
  • Proven ability to lead others.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to establish and implement strategic plans
  • Strong problem solving and problem resolution skills
  • Able to thrive in a rapidly growing and evolving environment.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to effectively manage and motivate employees and communicate objectives and action plans.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial hygiene or occupational health and safety or related field. A CIH or CSP is preferred but not required;
  • A minimum of eight years’ experience managing large-scale construction safety programs; OSHA certifications related to construction and/or industrial safety;
  • Demonstrated success leading and supervising safety professionals;
  • Ability to travel to different work sites and offices around the country.  Must be able to tolerate weather extremes, conduct some work outside in various environments, walk on uneven terrain and possess a valid driver’s license.
