Senior Scientist

  • [Company] has an immediate need for senior-level industrial hygiene professional. The position includes the ability to develop, manage, and conduct a wide variety of industrial hygiene and safety services in the Chicago-area as well as throughout the country. This position will also include Supervisory responsibilities for a team 10-15 industrial hygiene and safety staff. Technical work will involve managing asbestos surveys and abatement projects, chemical and noise exposure assessments; indoor air and visible mold investigations, ventilation assessments, and the development and review of health and safety plans (HASPs). This person will also interface with clients to ensure on time and satisfactory performance on projects. They will oversee the preparation of high quality project proposals, reports and deliverables; and coordinate and conduct the necessary review of project documents with in-house consultants, client representatives, contractors and others required to work as a team on the project. This person must solicit assistance from company management when project difficulties arise and assemble the resources required to serve the needs of a project or several small projects.

Safety Responsibilities:

  • Communicate hazards and special safety requirements to field personnel.
  • Coordinate special safety considerations with client.
  • Abide by safety and personal protective equipment policies.
  • Drive defensively, avoid preventable accidents and always wear a seat belt.
  • Attend regularly scheduled safety training.

Essential Skills/Abilities:

  • A demonstrated ability to evaluate the technical requirements of segments of individual projects, outline the tasks, staffing and equipment requirements, establish fees, scope projects and set project budgets and outline a project schedule.
  • A demonstrated ability to administer all project general and technical data and reports and to communicate orally and in writing to all parties involved.
  • Develop and mentor staff utilized to support IH projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Chicago-area market for IH-related services.

Basic and Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum years of experience: 10
  • Education required: BA or BS
  • Skills required: Relevant experience (10-15 years) in a consulting environment with focus on industrial hygiene practice in the Chicago-area, including asbestos management, chemical and noise exposure assessments, and indoor air quality and visible mold evaluations, and ventilation system assessments. Candidate must possess effective communication skills (written, verbal and listening) and solid interpersonal skills and computer skills. Knowledgeable of all applicable regulations and codes related to this practice area.

Additional and Preferred Qualifications:

  • Registrations/Certifications preferred: Certified Industrial Hygienist designation.
  • This position does require travel. Travel amount is 25%.
  • A valid driver's license and clean driving record is required for this position.
  • This position does manage others.
