THE POSITION
  • Our client is an African mining company with nearly $2Bn in revenues. 
  • The Executive Team is an energetic and dynamic group, with an impressive track record of growing the company through identifying and promoting talent with potential of being star performers. 
  • The company’s focus of recruiting and retaining star performers can be reflected in merit-based promotion philosophy. 
  • The company is currently looking for a successor to its current Chief Financial Officer. 
  • As a deputy CFO, you will oversee all accounting matters for a number of the company’s entities. 
  • The candidate will have a unique opportunity to participate in the growth of this dynamic company while contributing significantly to job creation in Africa. 
  • The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated professional with deep knowledge in Mining and Accounting. 

RESPONSIBILITIES
As a deputy CFO you will be trained for stepping into the CFO role. You will work with the CFO, the CEO and the rest of the Executive Team to create forecasts and develop strategies that will enable the company to continue its strong path of growth.

Your responsibilities will also include to:  
  • Evaluate and drive the company’s overall strategy
  • Manage the accounting and finance processes and systems, including the budgeting and forecasting process, for the domestic and international business  
  • Oversee all aspects of financial reporting including annual and bi-annual financial statements and monthly executive team reports 
  • Ensure that objectives and deadlines are met in accordance with regulatory and corporate requirements
  • Review the company’s financing options 
  • Oversee potential M&A deals, and assist with the potential initial public offering (IPO) of the company 
  • Lead ad hoc initiatives as required 

COMPANY BACKGROUND
  • The company currently generates close to $2 Billion USD in revenues annually. 
  • The company has invested over $2 Billion USD over the last 5 years in growing the business and is expected to increase its production from just under 250 Kmt to over 400Kmt in the next three years. 
  • The company is the largest private sector employer in the country that it operates and it is one of the world’s largest producers in its field. 
  • The company is a subsidiary of a London listed metals and mining group. 

LOCATION
  • The position will be based out of the country’s capital city, which has a little over 1 million inhabitants. 
  • The climate is pleasant with temperatures at about 15–25°C (~60–80°F). 
  • The official language in the country is English. 

QUALIFICATIONS AND CANDIDATE BACKGROUND
 The ideal candidate profile will include the following experience and attributes:
  • Budgeting Experience – Strong budgeting, forecasting, and cash management skills. Accounting degree and/or experience is a plus, but not required if the individual has operated in a similar role in the past.
  • Mining Experience – Extensive experience with creating best in class solutions at leading mining companies.
  • Experienced Leader – Track record of serving as a leader with 6-10+ years of work experience. Ability to build and manage effective teams, mentoring and developing top talent.  
  • Entrepreneurial and Analytical – Functions autonomously, he/she is a self-motivated, dynamic, decisive and confident practitioner with strong analytical skills. Possessing high intellect, this leader exhibits a strong drive for results to achieve outcomes that exceed expectations.  
  • Personable – Personable leader offering strong personal integrity and business ethics, as well as interpersonal skills to build deep and trusted relationships with colleagues across all verticals of the business.
  • Effective Communicator – Can articulate and communicate vision clearly with all levels within the organization. 
  • Passion for Driving Results – Desire to have ownership of- and contribute to the results of the company vs. merely thinking about the strategy of the company at a high level. 

START DATE & COMMITMENT As soon as possible. Ideal candidates will initially commit to a period of 2-4 years at the company. A longer commitment is a plus, but is not required.

COMPENSATION The client offers attractive compensation packages of 150,000 to 200,000 USD per year, plus bonus, share options and expat packages, putting the potential value of the total package well above 300,000 USD.
