Welder I

Summary:

  • Positions, aligns, and fits together fabricated plates, structural shapes, and weldments, then welds parts into structural fabricated products by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Examines the drawing and blueprints, then inventories components to ensure that all required materials are available, and that they conform to the plans.
  • Identifies and resolves any problem with drawings.
  • Requisitions welding materials through the Welding Shop Supervisor. * Records the material MTR's (Material Test Records) on the drawing.
  • Performs the actual fitup of materials. Supervisor approves fitup by annotating initials and date on drawing.
  • Upon approval of the welding Supervisor begins actual welding.
  • When welding operation is complete, grinds or chips rough edges, surplus weld, or scale. Cleans up assembly with wire buffer or sander as required.
  • Performs visual inspection.
  • Performs duty as Pressure Test station operator as required.

Qualification Requirements:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Three to Six months trade school; and one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • ASME Certified Welder per ASME, B&PV, Section IX, “Welding & Brazing Qualifications”, or working towards this certification.

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with the following types of welding: MIG Welding, TIG Welding, Stick Welding and Xray Welding.
