Data Center Manager

Scope:

  • Provides technical guidance to IT staff and manages all Data Center functions. These functions include the operation of server systems (primarily HP and IBM AS400), SAN. DR, operations, and quality control.

Responsibilities:

  • Development and continuous improvement of processes and procedures (including security and emergency response) for overall Data Center Operations and drive standardization as the business develops and changes. Establish standards for Data Centers, including capacity planning, lights out operations, and Data Center equipment inventory accuracy.
  • Communicate Data Center platform technology strategy to all levels of the organization including business and technical partners. Continue to move as many physical based servers to a VM environment as possible. Manage all server based hardware and Operating Systems (HP, IBM AS400, etc.) ensuring proactive monitoring and scaling from a HD, CPU, and supportability perspective. Work closely with application and ERP teams to ensure upgrades are fully tested and do not cause conflicts. Conversely, manage upgrades as driven by new application needs.
  • Manage all physical tape, virtual tape, and WAN data backup and recovery, Keep current with backup technology looking for a balanced approach to cost and risk reduction. Manage access to the Data Centers; ensuring appropriate access control lists are maintained at each facility and reporting to management about Data Center access.
  • Create and validate metrics reports regarding the current and future state of all critical IT systems within the region; ensuring compliance with global policies. Assist in the development of mission critical Data Center operations KPI's and Critical Success Factors metrics tracking and reporting to measure operational performance and quality.
  • Oversee the development, consolidation, support and build-out of the firm's Data Centers. Provide ongoing technical and leadership expertise in supporting the Data Centers, including growth and scalability requirements. Consider all areas of technology such as servers, storage, virtual platforms, rack configuration and placement, power and network cable management within power and space constraints.

Qualifications (education, experience, personal attributes):

  • Minimum of 5 years of administering server based systems and data centers in a large complex environment.
  • Hands on experience with multiple system platforms from a hardware and OS perspective; including, but not limited to: IBM AS400  System, Windows based Servers, VM, and SAN products. Understanding of Active Directory.
  • Experience supervising, coaching and mentoring of technical staff.
  • Understanding of Data Center mechanical and electrical operations including power distribution (generators, breaker panels, UPS), HVAC, fire suppression, and network/circuit management.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, activities and tasks simultaneously.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communications.
  • Minimum of an associate's degree in the information technology field. Bachelor's degree preferred. Knowledge of ITIL Service Transition processes related to Change, Release, Configuration and Knowledge Management is a plus.
