Area Manager - Mining Infrastructure Projects

  • As an Area Manager in charge of Mining projects you will be involved with building the infrastructure to support and run mining operations around the United States.  Projects can include access roads, sediment ponds, equipment installations, foundations, support buildings, railways, and more.
  • As Area Manager you are responsible for the administration and execution of assigned projects in a safe, profitable and timely manner. You will often be assigned to large complex projects and/or multiple projects.  Beyond construction you will be responsible for supporting and developing Sundt project teams, in addition to building and maintaining customer and industry relationships and building Sundt’s presence in targeted regions.  As a part of the overall Sundt team you will participate in the marketing, estimating, bidding and contract negotiation phases of the projects assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • May supervise and mentor staff, conduct reviews, make hiring, discipline and/or termination decisions.
  • Reviews estimates.
  • Manages the orderly, timely transition of projects from the estimate to the field.
  • Coordinates the means and methods required for the successful and profitable execution of the work. Reviews and monitors manpower, equipment and material resources to accomplish this goal.
  • Analyzes and approves CPM schedules monthly.
  • Prepares the monthly progress report in coordination with the Superintendent(s). Uses available reports to manage costs and prepare accurate cost projections.
  • Reviews and executes all change orders, supplements and cost control budget adjustments.
  • Reviews and manages the procurement schedule.
  • Manages all billings and the payment process.
  • Manages the execution of purchase order agreements and subcontracts with respect to insurance certificates, bonds, and the appropriate lien wavers.
  • Completes close out requirements and punch lists in a timely manner. Handles warranty call backs quickly to maintain owner/client relationships.
  • Provides feedback to estimators for use in future bidding or negotiations.

Qualifications:

  • Our Area Manager position is a critical role for us. As such, we need a proven track record of success managing the construction of large mine infrastructure projects. 

Other requirements:

  • Four year engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.
  • Extensive (15 or more years) experience in managing construction projects in the range of $60M to $120M, plus thorough knowledge of contract documents, materials, equipment utilization, scheduling systems, productivity analysis, construction operations, and cash flow procedures.
  • Proficient management, leadership, business development, and technical skills.
