Spatial Data Management Analyst

Role: Spatial Data Management Analyst – intermediate to senior

Term: 1 year contract with high likelihood of renewing

Location: Downtown, Calgary (Alberta)

This position posted is in the (Spatial) Data Management [SDM] team. The SDM team supports the embedded team members in the business on all their data management needs for the particular business units.

Our projects require a high level of sophistication and expertise in spatial data management in meeting the GIS needs of in a medium sized energy company.  GIS Services is looking for a talented Spatial Data Management Analyst to support the corporate GIS initiatives. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a dedicated and professional service oriented team in Calgary. The individual would participate in the implementation and support of a corporate GIS strategy to deliver accurate and reliable geographic data in support of E&P.

The primary responsibilities include:

• 5 to 10 years experience of data management related work with emphasis on energy related experience combined with the management of spatial data.
• The candidate must be a details oriented, independent self starter with strong problem solving skills who must work well with others within a structured team dynamic.
• Experience or exposure to GIS technology and methodology.

Key roles include:

• Requirements collection
• Data Modelling
• Workflow process modelling
• Workflow Automation
• Project and enterprise level spatial data management including the loading and   QC’ing of spatial data
• Systems integration
• Metadata collection and QC using ISO standard

Position Requirements:

• Oil and Gas related experience a valuable asset.
• Experience in the use of ESRI ArcGIS products in the application of GIS technologies and methodologies.
• Experience in managing spatial data within an ArcSDE environment – this includes data modelling, creating features classes, managing domains, creating indexes, etc.
• Must have experience with the ESRI Geoprocessing framework.
• Demonstrable skills in basic scripting languages including Python, FME, VBscript.
• The applicant should have working knowledge of basic spatial analysis techniques as well as experience in deploying relational and spatial databases for an enterprise GIS environment.
• An understanding for the importance of spatial reference in terms of survey, geodesy and Geomatics is a must.
• Degree or diploma in GIS, Geography, Geology, Geomatics Engineering, MIS, or a closely related discipline.
• Candidates must demonstrate excellent communication, collaboration, presentation and organization skills with the ability to take direction as required.
• Must be willing to learn and apply prescribed workflows as required.
• High standard of excellence and attention to detail; and the willingness/flexibility to work with a variety of people at all levels of the organization are essential for success in this role
