Senior Geotechnical Engineer

As an international consulting firm, with the experience and technical aptitude to work in a number of industries, our client creates partnerships with Owner/Operator companies in an effort to support their success in business.  Projections for future projects and opportunities have identified a requirement for a Senior Geological Engineer within their current team. This role will involve project management of a multidisciplinary team working primarily on large oil sands and coal projects from exploration and site investigations, to conceptual design through to construction.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Prepare proposals, cost estimates and timelines for projects;
  • Lead the planning, field support and completion of geotechnical site investigations;
  • Review and interpret monitoring information from geotechnical instrumentation programs;
  • Manage the analyses and design of civil earthworks structures primarily mine pit slopes, waste disposal areas, and tailings dams;
  • Track costs and hours for projects;
  • Write and/or review  technical design reports;
  • Support mine and tailings planning groups in the development and design of large mining projects as required.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in geotechnical, geological, civil or mining engineering.
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft office suite of programs, ACAD systems and the Geo-slope suite of programs

Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Minimum of 4 years of industry or consulting experience
  • Registered member of APEGGA or eligible for registration
  • Experience as a project manager
  • Strong professional communication skills; both written and oral
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Prepared to travel and be in the field for assignment of intervals of up to 2 weeks.

Candidates will have a Bachelors Degree in a related field and intermediate-level skills. 

This position is based out of Calgary, with up to 25% travel required.
