Strategic Buyer / Commodity Manager - Enerpac

  • We are currently searching for a Strategic Buyer at our Columbus, WI manufacturing facility.

Business Contribution:

  • Significantly contributes to year over year sales growth and operational improvement through best value sourcing and Supplier Continuous Improvement/Development.
  • Is the owner and leader of cost control and cost improvement activities for assigned commodities.
  • Is the primary resource for NPD Supplier sourcing and selection, Supplier DFM (Design for manufacturability) and FPY (first pass yield) of components for NPD projects, to meet or exceed program timing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage Cost Improvement Opportunities for purchased parts and services, applying LEAD (Lean Enterprise Across Disciplines) tools:
  • Lead MBF (Manage by Fact) team, Buy Completes category – cost improvement and containment
  • Supplier LEAN development, run size reduction, pull qty reduction and other
  • Negotiation to reduce ENERPAC Inventory, Safety Stock
  • Supplier Lead Time reductions
  • Improve Supplier Payment Terms
  • Support the implementation of Kanban systems for all purchased materials
  • Supplier consolidation and Supplier count reductions
  • Commodity Cost Down with changing raw material costs
  • Support Supplier relationships building, together with Supply Chain Leader
  • Is the primary Initiator of LEAD Improvement opportunities and activities in assigned commodities
  • Support Supplier Improvement Process for OTD and Quality Improvement
  • Support NPD (New Product Development) and our Product Out process to ensure:
  • Best Value Supplier Selection
  • Supplier Process capability with new product launch
  • Aggressive lead time commitment to meet or exceed program timing
  • LEAN Supplier Development start-up
  • Is a Leader of LEAD Continuous Improvement activities and projects
  • Able to provide LEAD coaching for others is a necessary skill set to be developed on the job
  • Supports Supplier performance improvement – ENERPAC global
  • Manage the total cost of suppliers, making improvements in total cost including terms, freight, unit cost and inventory reduction.
  • Maintain and nurture effective working relationships/communications with key support functions - Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Finance, MIS, Sales & Marketing, and Product Development.
  • Identify new world-class suppliers; execute commodity strategies and individual supplier strategies, assists with movement of business, as well as continuous improvement/development and consolidation of existing supply base.
  • Works closely with Quality, Engineering and Supplier operations to assess and ensure supplier capability to meet established performance objectives.
  • Maintains excellent Supplier relations/communications.

Required Capabilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or business field and 5-12 years’ experience in the purchasing of raw materials, manufactured components and mechanical equipment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.- Required
  • Demonstrates proven ability to lead aggressive cost-down initiatives, with sourcing/ resourcing strategies, ARIBA Cost Improvement, TBVA, DFM cost reductions, new technologies and other methods. Required
  • Proven experience in establishing and maintaining business relationships with suppliers to enhance short and long term agreements. Required

Knowledge/experience with:

  • Manufacturing processes, metal cutting, plastic injection molding, metal fabrication, electronics, other – Strongly preferred
  • MRP II, material and production control systems, Required
  • Proficiency reading engineering drawings and specifications, Strongly preferred
  • Lean Manufacturing techniques, Kaizen and Kanban principles, Required
  • Quality Management Systems, ISO and 6-sigma disciplines, training and experience. Preferred  
  • A thorough knowledge of MRP, Kanban, master scheduling, inventory management, forecasting Strongly preferred
  • Understanding of sales/marketing - preferred
  • International buying, vendor selection/certification experience, line reviews and advanced - preferred 
  • Demonstrated leadership skills are a must.
  • Demonstrates initiative and resourcefulness to do “whatever it takes”. Required
  • Has proven record of lead time management and lead time reduction. Required
  • CPIM or APICS certification, preferred
  • Demonstrated accomplishments in inventory management to support lean manufacturing operations with a global supply chain
  • Demonstrated Supplier development and improvement capabilities.
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Powerpoint)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with a highly proactive interpersonal style.
  • Ability to work in a team based environment.
  • Ability to travel to supply base.
