General Managers

Our client is the producer of precious metals in the mining industry. They have been well established for over 80 years. They are regarded as one of the leading mining houses in South Africa and globally.

Required abilities:

  • Business degree preferable
  • Mining related professional qualification, Mining, Engineering, Metallurgy, Financial or Human Resources
  • At least ten years management experience at least seven of which should be in a mining environment
  • Valid driving license code 08
  • Project management experience
  • Senior Management level : Business communication
  • Senior Management level : People Management
  • Executive Management level : Business understanding
  • Senior Management level : Employee relations
  • Senior Management level : Safety and Health
  • Executive Management level : Mining knowledge
  • The General Manager holds the legal position in terms of the mines MHSA and is therefore overall responsible to all stakeholders to ensure the safe and profitable management of the Mine through continuously optimising the Business.
  • The role needs to enhance and support short-term performance, ensure long-term viability to the Operational Unit and protect Anglo Platinum from Corporate Governance and legal risks.
  • The time frame for the role is 3 to 5 years but some initiatives could be on a shorter or longer timeframe.

Technical work responsibilities:

  • Operational Unit al operational standards
  • Operational Unit al operational performance
  • Operational Unit al operational uniformity
  • Install business controls
  • Interpret business results
  • Establish business plans and business strategies
  • Liaison with internal/external customers
  • Control financial expenditure
  • Optimize resource utilization
  • Mine conformance to national and sectoral safety requirements

Core work outputs:

  • Overall business management of the Operational Unit -including support and drive against risk
  • Good employee relations
  • Administration of necessary systems
  • Support the overall business management of the Operations Division
  • Business plans and Strategies for the Operational Unit
  • Calling out specialist expertise when problems occur
  • Exceptional material orders within agreed parameters
  • Capital project work within agreed parameters
  • Exceptional reallocation of labour and/or working hours
  • Financial expenditure within agreed parameters
  • Veto on individual resources at senior management positions
  • Changing plans and schedules to minimize the effect of unexpected problems
  • Stopping the operation if the working conditions are unsafe
  • Agreeing senior employees leave and overtime
  • Identifying senior employees suitable for further training
  • Disciplining of employees to agreed parameters and procedures
