EE Safety Officer Mining

Job Description :

• The SAFETY OFFICER is accountable for the inspection of working places, assist in incident investigations and monitors the SHE / risk management programmes. 
• The role holder also performs duties as required by regulations. 
• At least 3 years experience in a supervisory position in a Mining or Engineering environment with experience in performing risk assessments and risk management
• SHE management, communication and training
• SHE administration
• Legal Compliance
• Maintaining Health and safety Systems

Minimum Education Requirements :

• Grade 12 or equivalent NQF 4 qualification
• Recognised Blasting Certificate for underground mining operations
• Engineering Trade Test Certificate for engineering operations
• COMSOC 1& 2 / Samtrac / Minsoc 1 & 2

Job Requirements :

• Anticipate, identify, analyse and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices.
• Assist in the development of hazard control programmes.
• Implement, administer, advise and educate others on hazard control programmes.
• Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of hazard control programmes.
• Analyse incidents and non-conformances in order to identify deficiencies and contributing factors in the SHE management system.
• Facilitate investigations.
• Facilitate and participate in SHE meetings.
• Communicate and distribute standards and procedures to relevant stakeholders.
• Ensure all incidents and unsafe acts are reported and recorded in the relevant SHE database.
• Provide on the job coaching.
• Identify training needs.
• Compile daily and monthly SHE reports as well as relevant legal documentation.
• Execute effective role related administration.
• Work place Inspections as per MA Reg. 2.19.1
• Accident Inspections completed and submitted within accepted Lonmin requirements.
• 11.5 Reports completed and submitted within requirements of MHSA.
• Assisting Mine Overseer, Engineer and/or Section Manager in developing Safety Improvement Action Plans.
• Maintaining development of Safety Representatives.
• Assisting with the implementation and maintenance of SHE systems that contribute to safe and productive environment.
• Ensure continuous improvement of SHE systems by suggesting improvement projects and assisting with the execution of improvement projects.

Skills required :

• Relevant computer skills (MS Office & SAP)
• Working knowledge of information systems and processes
• Good report writing skills
• Familiar with mining industry.
• Analytical with attention to detail
• Knowledge and practical experience in SHE system implementation and auditing
• Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, mine standards and procedures. (Auditors/OHSAS 18001/ISO 14001, etc.)
• Knowledge of Investigation and auditing systems
• Knowledge of base line risks assessments and risk management
• Basic knowledge in Strata Control
• Knowledge of ICAM and auditing systems
