Geophysicist (part time)
Project summary and tasks: The goal of the project is to collect data on the location and intensity of palaeo-currents in the area of the Manihiki Plateau, central Pacific, during the Neogene. As boundary conditions both the tectonic-magmatic and the climatic development of the Manihiki Plateau, a Large Igneous Province have to be taken into consideration.
A high-resolution seismic reflection dataset, which has to be processed, correlated with geological information and interpreted will form the basis for the investigation. The work will be carried out in close collaboration with national and international partners and demands a high degree of independence, as well as the ability to work well as part of a team.
Requirements:
- A degree in Geophysics, Physics or Geology
- Knowledge in seismic data processing and seismostratigraphy
- Interest in processes of sediment transport and oceanic currents
- Experience with Unix and Linux
- Readiness to participate in marine expeditions

The candidate will work within a project funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research and the position will be funded for three years. The salary will be paid in accordance with the German Tarifvertrag des öffentlichen Dienstes (75% TVöD E13). The project will commence on October 1st 2012.
