Primary Purpose: 

  • Perform transfers of hazardous and non-hazardous products in compliance with training provided in accordance with work instructions and government regulations (EPA, FRA and OSHA)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Climb onto top and underneath railcars in order to inspect and seal railcars using a checklist
  • Inspect and seal trailers
  • Inspect equipment using checklists
  • Check fluid on equipment
  • Operate small tractors to move equipment
  • Drive golf cart through facility when required
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment (including changing oil, starters, batteries, clutches)
  • Perform Level One maintenance on equipment
  • Perform structural inspections
  • Perform mechanical inspections using checklists
  • Prepare products for transferring, such as heating, sparging and sampling
  • Perform all duties safely, effectively and efficiently
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures
  • Participate in daily Safety / Quality talks
  • Report all incidents and near misses
  • Understand and comply with Shipper Confidentiality when discussing Shipper Accounts
  • Perform all daily housekeeping duties to include bathrooms, windows, sweeping, mopping, trash pick-up, weed control, mowing grass, washing equipment / accessories, shoveling, drains, break rooms and shop areas
  • Comply with cross training as required
  • Understand and comply with all equirements of an Emergency Coordinator, including maintaining hazardous waste transfer facility logs, / manifests and signing manifests, as required
  • Ask questions concerning product integrity, product shortages or equipment quality
  • Other duties as trained and assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Education: 

  • High School diploma or equivalent

Experience / Specific Knowledge:

  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend clearly, verbally and in writing, in English
  • Must be able to understand and comply with all requirements for any emergency
  • Must be able to understand and comply with the Verification Policy, when applicable
  • Must have experience using hand tools
  • Must have experience performing Level One Maintenance on equipment
  • Must be able to take direction / supervision and work cooperatively with other people

Competencies, Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic math skills
  • Basic competency using Microsoft office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Must be able to understand and communicate in English
  • Must be able to climb up and down rail cars to a height of up to 20 feet
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be capable of gripping forces of up to 80 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Must meet medical criteria for use of respiratory protective equipment
  • Must be able to wear full body hazmat suit as required

Must meet physical requirements, including, but not limited to:

  • Consistently lifting / carrying and pulling / pushing weights / forces up to 60 pounds
  • Routinely gripping forces of up to 80 pounds
  • Routine walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending and squating, climbing up / down ladders and stairs, standing, sitting
  • Negotiating uneven and moving surfaces

Working Conditions:

  • Will be required to work outside in all types of weather throughout the year
  • Must be able to work extended hours and overtime as needed
  • Must be able to work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Applicants subject to background check and drug screening

Preferred Education / Certifications:

  • Experience operating mobile equipment (tractor, golf cart, John Deere tractor, hydraulic fork lift), pumps, master vac, chain conveyor preferred
  • Experience performing Level 1 Maintenance (includes starters and solenoids, alternators, batteries, filtration bags, sprockets and drive motors)
  • Hazmat and rail yard experience a plus
  • First Aid / CPR certification helpful
