Mines Inspector

The incumbent will function under The Workplace Safety and Health Act and Operation of Mines Regulation to work pro actively with (underground and surface) mining workplaces and joint safety and health committees to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all Manitobans.

Qualifications:

The following are essential for this position:

  • Knowledge of underground and surface mining operations/environment.
  • Highly motivated and service-oriented individuals with a demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team player.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including  the ability to write in a clear concise manner .
  • Strong interpersonal skills when dealing with both employers and workers.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office or equivalent programs
  • Demonstrated analytical skills
  • Available to respond to emergency calls outside of normal office hours.
  • Possession of a valid Manitoba driver's license is required, and the use of a personal vehicle may be required.

Desired for this position are:

  • Experience in the field of Occupational Safety and Health (a combination of experience as a member of a Workplace Safety and Health Committee, Safety and Health Representative, or as a Coordinator of a Company’s Workplace Safety and Health Program) with a working knowledge of occupational health and safety fundamentals, principles, rights, duties and responsibilities
  • Ability to perform inspections, investigations and deliver presentations.

Duties:

Reporting to the Northern Manager or the Director of the Mine Safety Branch, and functioning under The Workplace Safety and Health Act and Operation of Mines Regulation, the Mines Inspector:

  • Works pro actively with (underground and surface) mining workplaces and joint safety and health committees to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all Manitobans.
  • Conducts inspections in the mining sector, including monitoring of air quality and ventilation requirements.
  • Conducts fatality and serious incident investigations; right to refuse situations; discriminatory action investigations; and investigate complaints.
  • Delivers safety and health related educational programs to clients.
