Chief Surveyor

Qualifications & Requirements     

  • Grade 12;
  • National Diploma in Mine Surveying;
  • Ticket of Competence in Mine Surveying;
  • Accreditation or Registration with the Institute of Mine Surveyors will serve as an added advantage;
  • Total of eight years Mine Surveying experience;
  • Minimum of two year Management experience;
  • A valid code B/EB drivers license.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of MHSA, Minerals Act, Mineral and Petroleum Resources Act;
  • Advanced user of computer aided Draughting software and Micro station;
  • Intermediate user in MS Word, Excel, Access, JDE and SQL database;
  • Must have precise knowledge of GPS, Total Station and Specialised equipment;
  • Must have Knowledge of Surveying and HR/IR related policies;
  • Must have working knowledge of SHERQ and Health & Safety policies and procedures;
  • Must be able to manage a medium size team;
  • Must be able to database administration and data management;
  • Must have analytical skills in order to solve certain problems and to make judgements in certain cases;
  • Must have planning and organising skills;
  • Must be creative and innovative;
  • Must have relative knowledge of commercial and financial principles.

Key Performance Areas Include, Inter Alia:

  • Compile ore resources statements in liaison with MRM Department and Head office annually;
  • Record information e.g. DMR plans, according to all legal requirements and ensure full confidentiality;
  • Verify DMR plans completed by relevant person and sign off;
  • Identify emerging risks trough trend analysis and develop preventive and corrective action plans in conjunction with stakeholders where necessary;
  • Implement and monitor action plans and provide feedback to relevant stake holders;
  • Provide precise resource and survey information and data to internal and external customers;
  • Control and measure final production figures by declaring validated mine and harbour production volumes;
  • Control and monitor implementation of pit plans and utilisation of exploration data to ensure precise operations and resource modelling;
  • Develop and benchmark new technologies and techniques across interfaces;
  • Set up cadastral system according to legislation as and when required;
  • Implement, and monitor survey requirements as required
  • Manage own teams performance;
  • Assist in recruiting and selecting new employees;
  • Effectively manage employee relations;
  • Actively develop employees through training, coaching and mentoring;
  • Offer advice and guidance to ensure on going development and meeting of current and future skills requirements;
  • Manage and maintain survey database to ensure availability of accurate data at all times;
  • Ad hoc, any other reasonable duties as and when requested from time to time.
  • Appointment: Remuneration will be based on a competitive all-inclusive flexible package.
  • Probation Period: 6 months
  • The successful incumbent will be appointed subject to being certified medically fit as per the Mine Health and Safety Act 29/1996 and meeting the requirements of the Company’s Code of Practice – Minimum Standards of Fitness to perform work at a Mine. 
  • He/she may also undergo a psychometric assessment
