General Manager Mining

The Purpose of the role:

The primary purpose of this role is to sustainably transform the mining operation through leading both operational and improvement teams to deliver significantly improved HSE, operational and cost performance

Education & Qualifications

College/university Education:
  • Post grad studies in business highly desirable.

  • Strong leadership ability, capable of effective communicating at all levels
  • Sound negotiation skills in dealing with customers and employees with ability to influence
  • Critical thinking
  • A creative outlook combined with practicality and a strategic focus

Accountabilities

Operational performance:

  • Create and implement annual business plans as the basis for management of the mining operation
  • Lead, plan and manage site operational activities to mine planned volumes of uranium ore without injury to people or the environment, while meeting the company’s corporate expectations
  • Install and maintain production planning and control systems that achievement of planned production output of uranium with specification
  • Develop and maintain systems for control and response to variation to ensure consistent and capable organizational performance
  • Interact with the wider company’s team to enhance logistics, procurement, reporting and systems as required delivering value to company
  • Identify and manage strategic issues that could affect the ability of the operation to meet corporate, community and stakeholder expectations over the long term
  • Implement and improve existing mine plans by seeking out opportunities to increase the operational characteristics
  • Review and make recommendations on business case proposal, risk management and feasibility on capital projects

Business Improvement

  • Lead the business improvement Mini-T’s in the mining area to deliver sustainable operational improvements
  • Manage the company’s technical and external consultant support for all improvement activities
  • As a member of the  senior executive team support the development, implementation and review of business strategy, policies and standards

People  

  • Establish and maintain a high performance culture
  • Establish and maintain a people development system to ensure continual development of talent

Health, Safety and Environment                      

  • Lead the mine to achieve set targets, encourage team members to accept personal responsibility for workplace safety, quality of work. 
  • Productivity and to make individual contributions to the team
  • Develop and manage the systems and leadership behaviours required to enhance the Health and Safety of staff and contractors
  • Ensure the environmental performance of the mine operations is sustained and improved over time

Technical Competencies & skills

  • Ability to lead stable and safety operation
  • Develop and implement effective management operating systems
  • Demonstrate strategic thinking

Project management

  • Strong technical, process or operations background
  • Demonstrate competency in leading transformational change
  • Proven ability to develop a business case, inputs and key drivers and achieve objectives, financial profitability and effective business relationships
  • Financial Management
  • Relevant experience

Minimum

  • Operational management
  • Leadership of business change programs
  • Design and implementation of business systems and processes

Highly Desirable

  • Experience working in a role involving financial, international and multidisciplinary dimensions
  • Experience in implementation of the company standards, business processes and improvement methodology
  • Experience across a number of operations, cultures and locations (including uranium)
