Our Vice President of Mining position will provide an opportunity to demonstrate your leadership capabilities and focus on client and business development, as well as financial, technical, and strategic planning for environmental consulting services to the mining industry in Canada through client service and project management. You will be the face of CH2M HILL as you develop and lead a team to identify and deliver mining projects. You will be supported by our deep resources in Canada and North America while making client satisfaction a top priority. You are an engineer, geologist, or environmental scientist with a minimum of 15 years of environmental consulting experience through project management, technical leadership, and business development leadership roles serving the mining industry. You possess a track record of exceptional client service management and a desire to grow both personally and professionally.
This tremendous opportunity will be focused in the Canadian mining market. The role will be linked to a global mining team and will be accessed by that team when global opportunities align with your particular strengths and capabilities. The strategic initiatives of this role include:
· Developing and implementing a Canada mining market-specific strategic plan and individual mining account plans for growth of the environmental services within the mining market in Canada (and possibly globally). These plans will build on existing actions targeted at key clients and geographies, and will embrace the objective of building a portfolio of commercial and government clients across the country with mining environmental services needs , with preference being given to commercial clients with global holdings.
· Developing, maintaining, and meeting with clients. Identifying opportunities and collecting client critical information that best positions us for business growth opportunities with the client.
· Attending key conferences, industrial mining association meetings, etc. that align with our mining client targeting efforts to raise CH2M HILL’s profile in this market sector and build relationships with clients outside the client office setting.
· Assisting to lead and manage internal processes related to this mandate.
· Managing business development budgets related to the mining market for Canada.
· Leading and driving business development and procurements from early positioning through sales. Assisting to implement new programs as a key member of CH2M HILL’s Canadian Environmental Business – Functional Leadership Team.
· Providing mentoring and career development to account managers and members of account teams, and other staff as appropriate.
The successful candidate will work closely with the delivery assurance and quality manager and technical directors to maintain a high level of quality on mining-related work and minimize liabilities for the company in this market. Activities will include:
· Engaging to develop technical proposal strategies for work in the mining market.
· Providing senior technical review of mining-related reports (or ensuring that another technical reviewer has been engaged).
· Identifying resource gaps in our delivery team and supporting the business group to identify and recruit employees.
· Coordinating with other company senior technical staff to share information, identify trends in the marketplace, and develop and link to a network of global resources that can support projects as needed.
Qualifications:
You are an engineer, geologist, or environmental scientist with a minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible environmental consulting experience and you are a recognized leader in delivering environmental services to the mining industry, such as mine planning, environmental permitting, operational compliance, addressing acid mine drainage, mine closure, mine land reclamation, and/or environmental studies. You possess demonstrated expertise in managing and executing projects, along with exceptional business development experience within the environmental planning, site management, and/or remediation environment. You have strong relationships with a suite of the top Canadian and global mining companies. Strong project planning and organizational skills are complemented by a proven team management track record.
