Geologist / Geotechnical Engineer

Due to an increase in workload, this international renowned multi disciplinary consultancy are seeking an engineering geologist/ geotechnical engineer, to work in their professional and supportive geotechnical team. You will be involved in geotechnical design and reporting work for a range of interesting projects in the north-east of England and across the UK. Their projects mainly lie within the highways, flood defence, land development and energy sectors and are involved with some the biggest schemes in the area

Your role will be to assist in the development of the geotechnical aspects of projects by input to their investigation, design, construction and post construction monitoring as well as reporting. Your work will include desk and feasibility studies, interpretative reporting and design of earthworks, foundations and retaining structures.

You will also become a member their European earth engineering and science group and the global tunnels and earth engineering practice. Members of these groups are linked by close technical networks.

The ideal candidate should possess and be able to demonstrate the following skills and knowledge.

• A sound academic knowledge of civil and geotechnical engineering
• Knowledge of geotechnical design software and design codes and standards
• Awareness of commonly used forms of contract (NEC, ICE etc)
• A working knowledge of design codes and standards, including EC7
• A thorough knowledge of HD22/08 –Managing geotechnical Risk
• Strong communication skills with fluency in verbal and written English
• Numerate
• Problem solving & analysis skills
• Team player but with an ability to work independently when required
• Planning & organising skills
• Motivated to deliver high quality
• Commitment to professional and personal development

Minimum qualifications

• First degree in geology, engineering geology or civil engineering
• MSc in soil mechanics/geotechnical engineering or engineering geology
• Minimum of 3years relevant experience
