Plant and Pit Driver

Job Description

• Transports raw and processed aggregate from pit to crusher and/or from mill to stockpiles in dump truck having capacity of up to 50 tons or more.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

• Transport Aggregate:  Pit: Positions truck in pit and is loaded by skiploader, shovel, or clamshell. Transports material to crusher with drive-over hopper or backs up to unload into other type hopper. Raises truck bed to unload material and to lower bed down again by operating lever inside truck's cab. Plant: Receives loading instructions from Plant Operator. Positions truck in aisle under mill to receive load of processed aggregate products from overhead storage bins. May operate lever or button on mill to load own truck. Transports load to stockpiles and, at some locations, asphalt plants and underground concrete batch plant aggregates storage. Backs into position and raises truck bed to unload material and to lower bed down again by operating lever inside truck's cab. Occasionally transports raw materials and stock from one area of yard to another.
• Vehicle Maintenance and Other:  Performs pre-trip vehicle safety inspection and reports vehicle condition. Checks all vehicle fluid levels at beginning of shift and adds fluids if necessary. Fuels vehicle as needed. Cleans vehicle and drains brake air lines at end of shift. May lubricate vehicle. Performs other duties as instructed by supervisor.

Required Skills

• Valid Driver's License.
• Experience driving transfer truck or dump truck preferred.
• Excellent defensive driving skills.
