Safety Professional

Overall Job Purpose:

• Assist the Safety Manager in producing and coordinating safety programs which ensure a safe work place and promote safety consciousness throughout the workforce.

Responsibilities Include:

• Provide safety and industrial hygiene services to all departments at Sentinel
• Maintain MSHA, State, and Corporate accident reporting systems
• Manage contractor safety and training program
• Maintain Employee training records
• Assist mine management in scheduling and performing safety audits
• Conduct Job Observations at the complex
• Disseminate safety information to all levels of hourly and salaried employees
• Provide assistance and support with other activities including Behavior Based Safety program, mine rescue team, safety audits, drug testing, and safe job procedures
• Must be available to work alternating shifts and weekends as directed by supervisor
• Assist in injury prevention, conduct injury and near miss investigations, and make recommendations to prevent similar occurrences
• Assist in serving as a liaison between the company and State and Federal agencies
• Conduct job observations and inspections of surface and underground areas of the mine and plant
• Assist in scheduling and conducting required regulatory training, supervisor training, and other training activities
• Other related duties as assigned

Preferred Education & Experience:

• Minimum 5 years previous underground experience with a concentration in Safety
• Proficient knowledge in WV and MSHA regulations
• Strong leadership and motivational skills
• Proficient computer skills with an emphasis on the use of Word, Power Point, and Excel
• An eagerness to learn new skills and work with and teach others
• MSHA certifications – dust, noise, training instructor
• WV Mine Foreman’s Certification
• EMT Certification
