Process Engineer

Description

  • The primary objective is to troubleshoot process-related problems and to ensure continuous optimization of all stages of the wallboard manufacturing process. In addition, the process engineer works with various other departments to identify and develop long-term improvements. The Process Engineer provides technical support to the Plant's production, quality and process functions.  Understands strategies, priorities and optimization techniques that assist the plant in moving toward attainment of local and company objectives.  Evaluates operations, processes and trends through use of analytical and systematic approaches.   Provides technical support on implementation of new equipment and/or new procedures including training of plant personnel as required.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • To optimize the day to day operations of the wallboard manufacturing process.
  • To provide technical support to various plant personnel.
  • To manage the process equipment inventory.
  • Manage process best practices as they become available to the plant.
  • Continuous monitoring of base line process information using procedures and schedule.
  • To perform process audits as per Lafarge standards.
  • Maintain accurate and complete process records
  • Determine areas for significant process improvements and assist with the implementation of such projects
Educational Background :   
  • Bachelor of Science Degree. Chemical engineering degree is preferred.  Other engineering fields/degrees will be considered ( i.e., Mechanical, Industrial, Chemistry, etc.).

Experience: 

  • Solid understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, chemistry, physics, and mathematics.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the Gypsum industry or other similar manufacturing industry is preferred.
  • Experience in a culture that placed strong emphasis on safety, self-sufficiency and customer orientation.
  • Proven ability and analytical approach to problem solving; particularly those of a technical nature.
  • Good communication skills - written and spoken. The incumbent will possess the ability to work with all levels of employees at the plant as well as with divisional management.
  • The individual should be able to work in a responsible and self-directed manner with a strong work ethic to see tasks to completion.
  • The applicant should be able to maintain a high degree of professionalism and be able to represent Lafarge well when dealing with regulatory agencies, suppliers, and customers. 
  • Team work will be an essential element to the success of the Process and Quality Department team.
