Sr. Project Engineer/Scientist- Water Resources
Description
- [Company] is seeking an experienced natural resource professional with demonstrated expertise in water resource evaluation and management. The successful candidate will work with a nationwide, multidisciplinary team of accomplished biologists, engineers, geologists, chemists, economists, GIS professionals, and planners on a wide variety of water resource evaluation and management efforts.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Design, conduct and/or oversee surface water quality sampling efforts in streams, lakes, wetlands, estuaries and coastal waters
- Compile, analyze and interpret water resource data from internal and external sources
- Conduct modeling of surface water quality and associated factors for streams, lakes and estuaries
- Prepare technical reports summarizing results of analysis and modeling efforts
- Present findings and results of water resource investigations to clients, regulatory agencies and other stakeholders
- Manage a variety of water resource management projects
- Generate proposals and budgets for water resource efforts.
- Interact with project teams and mentor and supervise junior staff.
Basic Qualifications:
- Master’s degree, with educational background including some combination of water resource evaluation, environmental engineering, data analysis.
- 10-15 years of related professional experience.
- Experience designing monitoring and sampling programs.
- Experience compiling, managing, analyzing and depicting water resource data sets, including use of Excel spreadsheet software, GIS software, various modeling software.
- Experience with water resource issues involving eutrophication, nutrients, dissolved oxygen, coliform bacteria, sediment and heavy metals.
- Ability to generate work scopes and associated budgets.
- Strong familiarity with federal and state surface water quality regulations.
- Experience writing technical reports to clearly present analytical results.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in U.S. without company sponsorship.
- Ability to travel out of town on an occasional basis for project or business development purposes.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with determination of impairment status for water bodies and development of Total Maximum Daily Loads.
- Experience with the following water resource modeling applications: EFDC, QUAL2E, CEQUAL, BASINS, WASP, SPARROW, ArcHydro.
- Familiarity with Best Management Practices for water quality protection.
- At least eight years of relevant professional experience.
- Experience with storm water sampling programs.
- Water resource experience in a variety of states in the U.S.
- Willingness to work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Self-motivated, detail oriented and resourceful.
- Positive and energetic attitude and ability to work well with others in high energy situations.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships.
- Bilingual capabilities (Spanish) is a plus
