Application Engineer-Underground Mining Vehicles

Role Summary/Purpose:

  • The Application Engineer-Underground Mining Vehicles will design and develop systems for Underground Mining Vehicle propulsion applications. He/she will conduct design and analysis work, plan and conduct validation tests, coordinate design efforts of internal and external groups, and manage tradeoffs and interfaces between subsystems. This role has a direct and measurable impact on short-term and long-term business goals.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop, understand and translate customer requirements for underground mining vehicle propulsion systems
  • Ensure development of System Functional Specifications, Subsystem Design Specifications, and System Validation Specifications
  • Assist development team in executing the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
  • Provide technical leadership and application expertise to personnel supporting assigned projects
  • Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in Mining, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 1 year of job experience in mining

Desired Characteristics

  • Master's Degree in Mining, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the mining industry
  • Extensive domain knowledge in hard rock and soft rock mining
  • Extensive field experience related to underground mining practices and equipment, especially vehicles
  • Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems
  • Experience with vehicle propulsion systems including adjustable speed drives, electric motors, batteries / energy storage, and vehicle control systems
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • PC proficiency
