Mining Traction System Engineer Job

Role Summary/Purpose:

  • The Mining Traction System Engineer will focus on defining, developing and validating traction and auxiliary control systems for electric mining vehicle applications. In this role, you will conduct, design and analyze work, plan and conduct validation tests, coordinate design efforts of internal and external groups, and manage tradeoffs and interfaces between subsystems. In this role, you will have direct and measurable impact on short-term and long-term business goals. 
Essential Responsibilities
  • Design propulsion systems to meet customer needs
  • Work closely with Vehicle OEMs on Electric Propulsion System integration at the vehicle level
  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
  • Analyze and define Traction System control and power electronics
  • Control algorithm development
  • Develop and Validate test planning and execution
  • Provide technical leadership and expertise to personnel supporting the assigned project
  • Document technical data (System Requirements, FMEAs, etc.) generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures
  • Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments
  • Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues
  • Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience in an engineering position within the heavy equipment or related industry
  • Experience in Software Engineering, Electrical Design, or Electrical System Engineering
  • Master's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics
  • Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems
  • Experience with adjustable speed drives, electric motors, batteries / energy storage, and vehicle control systems
  • Understanding of power electronics, particularly IGBT's
  • Experience with diesel engine load control
  • Experience in control algorithm development, particularly for electric drive vehicles
  • Experience with development and validation testing of vehicle drive systems.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • PC proficiency
