Senior Mining Consultant – Geology/Mine Planning

My client is looking for an experienced Senior Mining Consultant to work within a consultancy environment; the position will be based in Johannesburg but would require site visits from time to time.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelors degree in applicable discipline (Geology/Mining)
• Fellow SAIMM. Pr.Sci.Nat or Pr.Eng.
• Minimum 10 years professional experience.
• Operational experience, preferably in both open pit and underground
• Minimum 5-10 years mine planning experience.
• Broad financial management skills.
• Skilled in mining software, preferably Datamine, Whittle. Vulcan, Surpac, MineSight and Mine 2-4D would be advantageous.
• Management and production experience.
• Demonstrated leadership and motivational skills.
• Familiarity with the various international reporting standards (JORC Code, NI43-101, SAMREC etc)

Job Specification

Position Objective:

• This position delivers technical services and supervision in relation to Geological modelling, Mine Planning and Design activities 
• including model validation, audits, due diligence studies, feasibility studies and technical reports.
• Reporting to the Manager Audits/Manager Consulting, the Senior Consultant will lead and undertake geological modelling, mine
• planning and design activity and be a positive role model who will lead by example through the contribution to and the promotion of
• a safe, satisfying and challenging work environment.
• Through focus on technical excellence, the role will assist with managing their technical peers through conducting peer reviews and  maintaining internal quality control.
• The Senior Project Consultant will also assist with the training and technical development of group technical personnel.
• The position will also assist the SLM with business development and with the preparation of proposals.

Provide technical input and supervision for:

• Input baseline data used in cost models to calculate operating and capital costs for o/p and u/g mining activities
• Appropriate mine design parameters
• Preparation of mine equipment specifications and standards
• Application of company mine design practises and templates
• Preparing preliminary and detailed mine designs in compliance with project design parameters
• Preparing technical audits and feasibility study audits to meet clients’ needs and expectations
• Developing systems and procedures to ensure all mine projects comply with statutory and regulatory requirements and company
• Policies and practices;
• Managing independently medium sized projects including the allocation of physical and human resources to ensure all mine design
• And engineering activities are completed on time and within budget;
• Preparation of proposals, engineering and project cost estimates
• Providing guidance to peers and other subordinate engineers
• Contributing / participating in risk assessments and design reviews
• Preparation of documentation for standards, procedures, safe working practices & monitoring regimes in respect of work on or  around mining projects
