Duties will include serving as the Construction Manager for individual Transportation projects as well as growing the overall Construction Management (CM) practice. Each day, you will ensure that projects meet their objectives by carefully planning, staffing, and scheduling, as well as performing budget management, and quality control and safety protocols.
  • This position will also serve as the visible Construction Management Business Leader  externally to clients, professional organizations, and competitors. Provides primary leadership and supervision of CM transportation business group staff in a geographic area working with the Director of Construction Management, the region's Geographic Manager (GM), Business Development Leader (BDL), and Geographic Operations Manager (GOM). Provides the cross-functional business development, technology, staffing, and project delivery performance within a geographic area, including Target Zero HSE excellence. Within the geography, assigned the responsibility and accountability for new CM business, project delivery and staffing.

Project responsibilities will include:

  • Construction management of transportation projects. You may conduct or assist with pre-construction conferences, supervise and direct field staff, conduct site meetings dealing with Contractor work progress, schedule, coordination, record drawing as well as problem exposure and resolution meetings. You will coordinate issue resolution arising from the inspection process or from contract administration and may be responsible for planning and scheduling all or part of the onsite staff and staff that come to the site on an intermittent basis, schedules surveyors and testing laboratories as necessary, negotiating and resolving Change Order Requests and Request For Quotes proposals on behalf of the Owner. You will keep all parties of the contract informed of clarifications and interpretations required for proper execution of the contract.

Key Leadership Duties:           

  • Ensures benchmark HSE and security standards are [Company] #1 priority.
  • Has primary responsibility within the geography for winning and delivering CM projects, including Labor Revenue and Gross Margin.
  • Is responsible for meeting targets and for managing assigned Overhead Costs within budget.
  • Is seen by clients as representing the CM business group within the geography.
  • Serves as the visible face of the CM business group to staff in the geography.
  • Serves as the primary conduit to provide CM business group strategy and other key information to staff.
  • Works with the Geographic Operations Manager to ensure that staff has the appropriate advocacy, mentoring, development planning and project opportunities to reach their career objectives.
  • Participates in the Performance Enhancement Process (PEP) and total compensation process for the geography and participates in the process at the regional level.
  • In conjunction with Geographic Operations Manager and other CM Regional Business Leaders, ensures that optimal project assignment, workload leveling, hiring and management recommendations are made for assigned staff both within the geography and across the CM business group.
  • Responsible for building staff capabilities in technical, construction management, and business development areas.
  • Participates in developing geographic-level procurement strategies including “go/no go" decisions, deployment of financial and human resources, and contract and pricing negotiations.
  • Ensures that client satisfaction goals are met and that client service and focus is the top priority of the geography.
  • Participates with BDLs in developing strategic CM plans at the geography level and makes sure strategic plans are updated at least once every two years.
  • Accountable for the performance of projects and Construction Managers within the geographic area.
  • Ensures that the delivery of projects in the geographic portfolio result in: (a) Superior Client Service; (b) Sound Technical Quality; (c) Strong Financial Performance; (d) Acceptable Risk Profile.
  • Targets key strategic hires/needs and work to find staff for those needs.
  • You should be a self-motivated professional with a proven and successful 20 year track record working as a Construction Manager or position of similar responsibility on large transportation infrastructure projects.  Candidate must be proficient in the use of a computer to prepare reports using Microsoft Office programs such as Word and Excel and must know how to access the internet and use e-mails. You should be able to read and understand construction schedules and use scheduling software similar such as Primavera P3 or more current version. PE or Certification as Construction Manager (CCM) preferred as well as working knowledge of contracting experience. A candidate with strong writing, negotiation and interpersonal skills will be the perfect fit. You should have the ability to work independently as well as have a desire to grow personally and professionally with each construction management assignment.

Basic Qualifications

  • 20 years’ experience as a Construction Manager or position of similar responsibility in the construction industry with an emphasis on Transportation projects
