Tool Service - Lead Technician
Brief Description
- [Company] seeks an ambitious and experienced Lead Technician for the Tool Service department within our machine shop. The Lead Technician will use strong technical skills in combination with leadership and organization skills to effectively lead and coordinate all Tool Service activities in the machine shop.
- The position is located at our Canal Street facility in Milwaukee, WI.
Key Accountabilities
- Coordinate Tool Service staffing assignments on all shifts.
- Work with minimal supervision.
- Order and maintain tooling inventory.
- Troubleshoot shop tooling problems.
- Set -up and operate Tool Room machinery as required.
- Work to verbal instructions or shop sketches.
- Perform close tolerance work.
- Disburse, record, transfer, and store material in Tool Stores.
- Participate in the weekend overtime rotation as required, which includes both Saturdays and Sundays.
- Other service related activities and duties as required.
Job Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent required; prefer candidates with additional schooling or training, such as a trade school degree or apprenticeship.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience tool grinding and/or machining experience required.
- Previous experience setting up and operating tool room machinery.
- Previous experience using tool and shop drawings on the job required; must be able to accurately read the drawings and apply to work.
- Previous experience accurately using basic precision measuring instruments on the job is required.
- Basic computer skills required (i.e. able to operate a PC, use Microsoft Outlook for email, etc.)
- Must be available and willing to work some over time when required, including weekends as part of a rotation schedule.
Desirable Experience, Capabilities and Success Factors
- The ideal candidate will have prior experience as a lead, supervisor, or manager of a tool room.
- Must have knowledge of cutting tools and tooling components.
- Must understand inventory management principles.
- Must have good interpersonal communication skills; must be able to work well with other people.
- Excellent trouble shooting and problem solving skills are critical to this role.
- Must have a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and the ability to function in a fast-paced, continually changing, service-oriented environment.
