Senior Geoscientist/Geomodeller

Our Calgary based client, would like to recruit a Senior Geoscientist/Geomodeller.

Position Summary

To provide high quality geoscience support to the exploration, appraisal, field development and reservoir management of the Company's shale gas resource assets, as assigned by the Subsurface Manager. Occasionally, the incumbent will also be required to assist with new business development activities, functional initiatives, training, mentoring and managing technical work carried out by specialist consultancies.

Selected candidate will display exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, and an eagerness to be a contributing member of a highly effective team of professionals.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications and Capabilities

  • Bachelor degree in a geology or earth science subject is required.
  • M. Sc or PhD in Petroleum Geology or Petroleum Geophysics is desirable.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills are required. Fluency in written and spoken use of the English language is required.
  • Current, up-to-date capability in using MS Office software and collaborative applications is required.
  • Ability to work alone under own initiative and in close collaboration with multidiscipline team members is required.
  • The ability to identify, map and quantify shale gas leads, maturing them through to drillable prospects in pilot and full scale projects is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform analysis, interpretation and problem solving at all levels of complexity with varying volumes of data is required.
  • Current capability in geoscience interpretation and modelling software is required. AccuMap and Petrel software expertise is desirable.
  • Flexibility for occasional inter-continental travel.
  • Understanding of and willingness to work in a matrix organisation is required.
  • Understanding the importance of Client Values and other Client Group working policies is required.

Specific Expertise and Experience:

  • 10 years upstream industry experience, focused recently on shale reservoirs is required.
  • Minimum 2-3 years experience in basin shale gas exploration would be an advantage.
  • Detailed understanding of integrated geological models in Petrel software, integrating all types of field data, including core, log, seismic (including microseismic) and analogue data is required.
  • Experience in field reservoir management and development planning is required.
  • Experience in characterization of shale reservoirs is an advantage.
  • Good working knowledge related to petroleum systems, geochemistry, shale source rock is required.
  • Expertise in shale core description, sedimentology, core analysis conventional and SCAL, mechanical properties and petrography is desirable
  • Basic well log evaluation and correlation understanding, including qualitative interpretation is required.
  • Image log interpretation, rock mechanical properties, including shear and compressional wave response evaluation would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of seismic interpretation fault detection and attribute analysis is desirable
  • Experience in probabilistic volumetric evaluation, especially pertaining to shale reservoirs is desirable.
  • Experience in resource risk and uncertainty evaluation is required. In particular, experience in using Geoknowledge GeoX software would be an advantage.
  • General understanding of conventional and unconventional applications, implementation, optimization and interpretation is desirable.
  • Experience in partnership/JV operations in exploration and development is required.
  • Understanding of shale gas drilling and completions techniques would be an advantage.
  • Fracture interpretation and geomechanical wellbore properties understanding would be an advantage.
